The manor house
Built in the 18th century on foundations that were probably much older, this manor house is approx. 1 km (0.6 miles) from the village, on the outskirts of a hamlet. Accessed by a narrow lane, the property is in the country but is not isolated.
The rendered stone walls of this solidly constructed dwelling are covered with Virginia creeper.
The dovecote is made of exposed stone.
The facade features large windows on two floors and a central, square, stone porch, highlighting double entrance doors that are elegantly topped by an arched fanlight. Old tiles cover the hip roof of the main building and the conical roof of the dovecote.
The main facade of the building, the wing of the service quarters and the outside walls surround a lawn-filled courtyard of approx. 4,300 m² (1 acre), planted with trees and flowers and with a large well in its centre.
The heated swimming pool (heat pump) and the pool house with its shower comprising a summer kitchen, a barbecue and a bar are slightly set back.
To the rear, the residence looks out over approx. 2 ha (4.9 acres) of grasslands featuring a lake and fruit trees. There are also a tennis court and a second access to the property.
The floors on the ground floor are of terracotta and mosaic tiles and, on the 1st and 2nd floors, they are of terracotta and old tiles.
The oak beams are exposed. There is a rustic fireplace (beam and stone mantle piece) and another one of carved wood.
The stairway is made of old bricks with oak wood nosing.
The ground floor comprises a large through entrance hall with a lounge area, a dining room (with fireplace), a lounge (with fireplace), a study, a kitchen, a storeroom and a machine room.
The first floor includes a long corridor leading to a large 36 m² (387 sq ft) bedroom with bathroom, 2 bedrooms, a bathroom and a toilet. The second floor which has sloping ceilings throughout comprises a large 30 m² (323 sq ft) bedroom, 2 small bedrooms and a large 50 m² (538 sq ft) room with bathroom (toilet).
There are miscellaneous hall areas throughout the building.
Recent total renovation works have installed modern-day comforts: gas and oil-fired central heating (heat pumps), closed hearth fireplaces and double glazing.
The outbuildings
18th century dovecote in pristine condition.
An adjoining “L-shaped” barn currently used as a laundry room, a garage (2 cars), a workshop and a wood shed (right to estovers). Upstairs, a 150m² (1,614 sq ft) room awaits conversion.
There is independent accommodation for a caretaker (3 rooms, kitchen, bathroom) in the wing, looking out on to the rear of the building.
Stables (2 loose boxes).
Behind its outside wall, away from nuisances, peace and quiet reign over this property which benefits from being called a castle. It is away from nuisances and completely unoverlooked. The inside is warm and welcoming. Through light and high ceilings (4.8 m / 15.7 ft) make the ground floor wonderfully luminous.
The fully enclosed surface area means that a horse rider could accommodate one or two horses.
The courtyard-facing facade with its stone stairway overlooking the terrace, the garden and the swimming pool is ideal for pleasant evenings in the company of family or friends.
A purist would want to add a personal touch in order to have a comfortable residence that is more in line with the tradition of the era.
Lastly, its relative closeness to Paris is an additional asset for those wanting to acquire a holiday home that is rapidly accessible by road.
