16th & 18th century, listed chateau on a 15 ha (37 acre) estate in the Loire Valley
Paris is 230 km (144 miles) away on the A10 motorway; Tours is 30 minutes away by car: TGV train station putting Paris just an hour away and an airport with 80 minute flights to London.
Set on the banks of the Loire, known for its Chateaux, just a few minutes from a Royal city, ideally located for exploring one of the top tourist regions in France.
In the Touraine region, dubbed the Garden of France, where the countryside is opulent, the gardens colourful, the food good, the wine lively and the architectural heritage rich. Medieval fortresses and magnificent Renaissance-style chateaux abound but even more numerous are the lesser known or unknown properties. Some of which are surrounded by their vineyard, others dominate the river and some, like this one, although very near to the town, are hidden on the edge of a forest.
Shops and amenities as well as schools and sixth form colleges are 10 minutes away by car.
An estate of approx. 15 ha (37 acres): 6.6 ha (16.3) of grasslands, 5.3 ha (13.1 acres) of woods and 3 ha (7.4 acres) of parklands, an orchard and a vegetable garden.
In the northern part of this territory, protected from onlookers on one side by its woods and on the other by its former farm and majestic, arched entrance gates, stands this chateau surrounded by its outbuildings.
The chateau
It comprises two very different parts that come from different eras.
To the north, the old section built in the 16th century still has its openings characteristic of the Renaissance period but they have unfortunately lost their mullion-style windows.
Against the southern end of, and perpendicular to this first building is a newer building that was added during the 18th century. Taller and more massive, this part of the chateau is also much more luminous as it faces south and is illuminated by numerous, symmetrical windows.
The chateau has French MH listing for its roofs and facades as well as inside for a room decorated with panelling and a painted ceiling.
The chateau has just been fully restored outside (except for the roofs which were just redone) and inside. Everything was dismantled, reviewed, preferably restored or replaced according to the original style if there was no other solution.
More than 1,300 m² (13,993 sq ft) of comfortable living space. The ground floor comprises an entrance hall, a dining room, a vast fitted kitchen, a lounge, 2 studies (1 of which has French MH listing), a music room, a 2nd entrance hall, a tack room, a cinema lounge and miscellaneous rooms.
The first floor includes 2 adjoining lounges and a library, a master suite (bedroom, bathroom, dressing room and ladies’ sitting room), a chapel, a vestry, 2 bedrooms with bathroom, a ladies’ sitting room, a dressing room and a bathroom.
The 2nd floor comprises a lounge, 4 bedrooms with bathroom, a kitchen and a laundry room.
Two superb main stairways and a spiral stairway lead upstairs. The floors feature period or new, but good quality, stone floor tiles, parquet flooring or terracotta floor tiles.
The electric wiring, central heating, plumbing and sanitation facilities are new. Most rooms have Internet and television connection sockets.
The outbuildings
A 17th century house is in a good state of repair outside but needs restoring and converting (possible 200 m² / 2,153 sq ft).
Large barn.
Impressive, dovecote with French MH listing.
A caretaker’s house is in the process of being created in a ruined building which has a bread oven.
The new owners will be very lucky to find a building of this size in which, everything has been reviewed and restored “with no expense spared”.
We can but say that the location is ideal whatever purpose the property is used for.
As for the surroundings, you will just have to come and discover them for yourselves.
