Authentic medieval, 15th & 16th century, listed house in a town centre, 100 km (63 miles)
Nestled in a small unspoilt valley furrowed in a plateau that dominates the Aisne Valley, in the centre of a town with its abbey church standing on the edge of a stream, facing the plains.
Bordered by wooded hills with a great many small streams running through, this pleasant village, one of the most beautiful in the area, has managed to preserve several architectural treasures.
A small flower-filled town on land overflowing with history, a former county full of a heritage that still shelters numerous sites just waiting to be explored, character houses and residences, mills, a wash-house, a former hospice and convent as well as castles, some even in ruins.
Just a few dozen miles from several large towns.
The site is practical and accessible, and the surroundings are picturesque and pleasant.
This was, originally, an authentic half-timbered house with corbelling from the early Middle Ages. Xylological and dendrochronological studies of wooden elements from the half-timbered structures as well as the heights of the ceilings and floors show this property as undoubtedly dating from the beginning of the 15th century.
Its configuration indicates that it most probably already belonged to a shopkeeper who at the time kept a small shop.
It was long run as a restaurant, for more than a century, and moreover, continued as such up until a few years ago. It then became town property for a short while before belonging more recently to a private individual.
Situated in the centre of a town, it was built set back, and at right angles to the street, thus forming an L-shaped building.
Stone, brick, oak wood and small flat tiles make it an outstanding composition.
Original carriage gates and an original conical turret with a stone roof are among its main exceptional features.
The turret is listed, and the facades both those setback and those at right angles with the street, with their roofs as well as that of the turret are classified.
An exceptional property in an ideal situation that is near to Paris, in a tourist region, in the centre of a pleasant town and surrounded by wonderful countryside.
Although this authentic, old half-timbered house awaits restoration, it is one that has kept all its authenticity.
It could easily be converted into a large living area and turned into a character residence, and could, why not, also be linked with a commercial activity, fulfilling a need, or even a cultural or historical heritage project.
It is, above all, a way of making a good deal through tax benefit advantages.
A character house in a charming town.
A rare opportunity.
