Description

The property is situated in a small town on a hill dominating the Saône. The view encompasses the Bresse plains as far as the Jura mountains. It is a few yards from the centre of town in a quiet one-way street, and extends along the hill towards the banks of the Saône.
Built at the beginning of the 19th century by a rich local family, this large, comfortable, refined luxurious house in beautiful parklands comes complete with a house for staff accommodation, and outbuildings for houses and horse-drawn carriages. It is entirely built over vaulted cellars and comprises a ground floor, first floor and converted attic space. It spans a total living space of approx. 8,611 sq ft. The rectangular-shaped, stone building is topped with a high, hipped roof.
It has two totally different aspects: an unassuming middle-class house facing the road, and a small 19th century refined, sober castle facing the parklands.
The ground floor is given over to adjoining reception rooms, laid out around an outstanding stairwell. Italian-style balustrades, Venetian stucco, diagonal parquet flooring, mosaics, marble fireplaces and ceramic stoves decorate the rooms.
The spacious and refined bedrooms, designed in accordance with the “Belle Epoque” or Beautiful Era style of the property, are to be found upstairs. An independent, completely restored, two-storey house spanning 1,615 sq ft is totally dedicated to well-being with a sauna and Jacuzzi.
A caretakers’ cottage and outbuildings used as garages, stables and workshops.

Our opinion

The property is situated in an ideal setting: middle of the town and the country, unobstructed view and riverside, peace, quiet and unoverlooked.
The house facing the road is sober, even unobtrusive, and reveals all its inner, slightly Italian-style refinement. The rooms are comfortably laid out and the renovation works succeeded in providing all modern-day comforts whilst maintaining the charm of the “Belle Epoque”
