Fully restored,
authentic 12th century mill

Location

In a small village 44 miles from Paris, 10 miles from Fontainebleau.

Description

Set in the middle of just under 10 acres of extremely romantic parklands, criss-crossed by a first category river. This meandering ribbon of water spanned by small bridges, forms crystal-clear waterfalls here and there, and winds lazily around small weeping-willow-filled islands.
The property, including the fort, remnant of a feudal castle (intentionally kept in ruins) which was used to protect village parishioners, currently comprises:
The fort made of Souppes stone.
The L-shaped mill renovated using Souppes stone.
Outbuildings restored in the same manner: a function room and an open-air gallery.

The mill, with three floors forming the long side of the “L”, spans approx. 7,534 sq ft of living space.
On the ground floor: an entrance, a 1,109 sq ft reception room with a ridge approx. 26 ft high. The Burgundy stone floor changes to a glass floor where the river that powers the mill passes underneath. Kitchen, back kitchen, boiler room (new oil-fired boiler), toilet.
First floor: 3 bedrooms with adjoining bath or shower room (Jacuzzi for one of them) and toilet.
Second floor: Games room, bedroom with mezzanine and adjoining bathroom, toilet.
Holiday accommodation on two floors forms the short side of the “L” with living room, toilet, shower room, living room, bedroom.

Outbuildings: approx. 4,090 sq ft.
1,313 sq ft function room with professional kitchen, dormitory room, and two cloakrooms. Outside toilets.
A former wood shed has been turned into an L-

Our opinion

The property acquired by the current owners in a pitiful state, was probably restored in 1987.
The building was consolidated and would seem to have genuinely started a new life dedicated to being a home and to receiving guests.
Who would, in fact, want to restart the water wheel and its system, if not for the beauty of it?
The omnipresent water transforms the landscape in line with the seasons.
