Traditional, stone “Bastidon” and “Mazet” buildings in a clearing 15 mn from Draguignann

Location

At an altitude of 400 m, half way between the Verdon Gorges and Sainte Maxime beach, 15 minutes from Draguignan, 50 from Cannes and 20 from a French TGV train station, 1 hour from Nice and Toulon Hyères airports. In the peace and quiet without being isolated, 1.5 km (1 mile) from a picturesque village with narrow paved streets, arched passageways, porches, 18th century gates, fountains and shady squares.

Description

A dirt track, through a forest, leads to a clearing, in the centre of which a traditional “Mazet” and two “Bastidons” provide 85 m² (915 sq ft) of living space surrounding a swimming pool. Wooded land spanning a surface area of 5,950 m² (1.5 acres) and formed of “restanque” terraces predominantly comprises pine, oak and evergreen oak trees.
The nearest neighbour is 150 m (164 yards) away but is out of sight.
The main exposed stone “Mazet”, with a triple overhanging cornice, spans 2 floors: the upper floor on a level with the garden has a terrace of approx. 30 m² (323 sq ft) that is partly covered with a tiled canopy which is supported on stone pillars. It comprises a lounge-dining room with a fireplace, an American-style kitchen, a bathroom and toilet. The lower level includes a bedroom with a fireplace, overlooking the swimming pool. The French window is protected by a tiled canopy. A small storage area, closed by a rounded doorway in a stone arch, adjoins the bedroom.
An exposed stone “Bastidon”, forms a bedroom on a level with a terrace in the oleander bushes. It is connected to the “Mazet”, on the upper floor, by a stone archway overlooking a stairway that goes up into the garden towards the French bowls playing area.
A second stone “Bastidon” is a 3rd bedroom situated near to the swimming pool.
The 8.5x4.5 m (27.9x48.4 ft) swimming pool is surrounded by a terracotta terrace spanning approx. 45 m² (484 sq ft), bordered by oleander bushes. At one end, a wide stone stairway with curved steps leads up to the covered terrace.

Our opinion

Nature, authenticity, low rates and maintenance costs, the possibility of seasonal renting for 6/8 people, sun, peace and quiet, and all just 15 minutes from a subprefecture. This is what is waiting for the new owners, in a totally unspoilt countryside.
