Character houses

In the peace and quiet, 10 minutes from Megève

Location

Deep in the country and just a few slopes from Megève, superbly situated on the outskirts of a small hamlet, the property dominates the valley with an unobstructed view over the Alps and Mont Blanc. Its ideal situation at the foot of a large ski area with almost 200 km (125 miles) of slopes also makes it possible to reach the “Evasion Mont-Blanc” ski area in less than 10 minutes.
The property is easily accessed from the main road via a narrow lane approx. 400 m (438 yds) long, maintained by the council.

Description

The buildings making up the property date from 1886 and stand in approx. 5000 m² (1.24 acres) of completely unoverlooked land, with no near neighbours. Over the last ten years, all the buildings have been perfectly restored in line with their character and architecture specific to this Savoyard region.
The authenticity is reflected through the quality of the work and the materials. The rooms are welcoming.

The estate includes four buildings spanning a total living space of approx. 500 m² (5382 sq ft):

An authentic farm perfectly restored in pure Savoyard tradition: shingle roof, old wainscoting, wood flooring, stone walls, etc.
The garden level is predominantly composed of 5 rooms used as lounges and annexe rooms (kitchen, cloakroom cellar, boiler room, large cellar). The first floor includes 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 2 shower rooms, 3 toilets and a study.
A pleasant mezzanine floor overlooks the property, enabling the sun-filled valley to be enjoyed to the full.

An old haybarn totally rebuilt in 2005 using period materials recuperated from old neighbouring farms. The authenticity of the building is astonishing and the attention to detail resulted in furniture having to be made-to-measure.
The basement comprises 2 garages, 2 bedrooms, bath and shower rooms and 2 toilets, boiler room. The garden level and the 1st floor have pleasant living rooms (4 bedrooms with bathrooms, lounge, dining room and kitchen).

A former attic now totally converted and resembling a charming “doll’s house” comprising a living room with a period kitchen range, a comfortable kitchen, a bedroom with bathroom and period bath tub.

An authentic bread oven built in traditional Savoyard fashion and featuring a barbecue area.

Our opinion

This is not a case of being in the right place to be seen but of seeing the right place to be. Although not far from fashionable Megève, it is a haven of peace and serenity. The perfect, authentic renovation is a delight and the prestigious guests and crowned heads that until recently still frequented the place when it offered accommodation and restaurant services knew how to appreciate this exceptional site.
