14th century castle in the Cévennes region
Close to Uzès, in the South Cévennes, 28 miles from Nîmes (airport and TGV train station), in the Cévennes National Park classified “World Biosphere Reserve” by UNESCO in 1985, close to the Tarn gorges, the Ardèche and the Pont du Gard (Roman aqueduct), in a region steeped in history and prehistory.
This 14th century castle with its Roman keep, in a dominant position, looking out over a valley, was redesigned in the 17th and 18th centuries. It spans three floors giving a total surface area of approx. 12,916 sq ft including a restored 5,382 sq ft garden level.
A wide central stairway accesses the 1st and 2nd floors which comprise twelve or so rooms undergoing restoration, keeping the original floor surface areas and spaciousness.
Approx. 2.47 acres of parklands with outbuildings, terraces, ornamental pool and bamboo grove complete the property in which many original features have been preserved.
A castle reminiscent of the very rich history of the region, set in the heart of the Cévennes countryside. Its authenticity lends itself to restoration projects for both private and professional purposes.
