Small 19th century castle
south of Rennes

Location

In a town with 2,000 inhabitants, 400 km (250 miles) from Paris, 140 minutes by TGV train, 50 km (31 miles) south of Rennes.

Description

Set in approx. 2ha (4.94 acres) of small woods and grasslands, this castle dating from the second half of the 19th century is built on the ruins of an old manor house. It has rendered rubble stone walls and windows, quoins and central openings framed with dressed freestone.
It is built of two rectangular-shaped buildings, adjoined one behind the other and flanked by two brick and stone, polygonal towers.
Spanning more than 500 m² (5,382 sq ft) of living space over three stories, it comprises:
An entrance hall, a 60 m² (646 sq ft) double lounge, a small lounge, a 30 m² (323 sq ft) kitchen and a room on the ground floor. The first floor includes a landing, five bedrooms, a bathroom, two shower rooms; the second floor comprises four bedrooms and three rooms with sloping ceilings.
Basement cellars run under the entire castle.
Strip pattern parquet flooring, period fireplaces.
Several garages and outbuildings await conversion.

Our opinion

A pleasant setting in the heart of a small town. A reasonably-sized castle with comfortably-sized rooms. The original decorative features have been preserved. The inside of the castle is in need of some attention.
