
19th century chateau in the South Burgundy vineyards
In South Burgundy, in the heart of Cote Chalonaise vineyards. The rich soils of the hillsides slope down to the Saône. The “terroir” is composed of 4,000 ha (9,880 acres) of vineyards, divided into 5 classifications of “appellation village”: Bouzeron, Rully, Mercurey, Givry and Montagny. The countryside is scattered with picturesque Burgundy villages, numerous castles and Romanesque churches.

The chateau was built in the middle of the 19th century by a rich family of wine growers. The white stone building has a Mansard roof. The facade facing the parklands is flanked by two tall circular towers, topped with pointed conical roofs. The facades have wide regular openings. An outstanding horseshoe-shaped, one flight stairway faces the parklands. Each storey spans approx. 200 m² (2,153 sq ft) of living space.
The ground floor comprises an entrance hall, a vestibule, two fitted kitchens, cloakrooms, toilets and a utility room. Adjoining reception rooms line the parklands’ side: large lounge, ladies’ sitting room, small lounge, dining room, plate room. Tiled floors with period motifs, marble floors with inlaid decorations, herringbone parquet flooring, walls covered with support panelling and white ceilings adorned with cornices. The second floor was used to accommodate the domestic staff: several bedrooms with sloping ceilings, renovated or in their original condition.
