Listed castle with water-filled moats and outbuildings in the French department of Aube
Location
150 km (94 miles) from Paris, accessible via the A5 motorway, Nogent or Sens French SNCF train station (25-30 km / 16-19 miles). State and private schools 8 and 15 km (5 and 9 miles) away.
The nearest two villages are approx. 4 km (2.5 miles) away.
The castle is set amongst woods and greenery, right in the middle of the countryside, and has the benefit of nuisance-free surroundings.
Description
This square building has 4 corner turrets encircled by water-filled moats fed by a stream and a lake.
The building stands on foundations dating from the 12th century, and the current castle dates from the 17th and 18th centuries.
It features bonded chalk and brick facades with a slate roof.
The floor surface area spans approx. 350 m² (3,767 sq ft) per level.
The internal, load-bearing walls are 0.9 m (2.95 ft) thick.
Basement: reception hall with terracotta floor tiles, ladies/mens toilets, kitchens (pastry-making area, a cold room, a room for dish preparation with a dumbwaiter, a dry goods store, a vegetable storeroom, a cooking station with range and pantry), a wood shed, a boiler room, a vaulted stone room (30-head function possible), a consecrated chapel in the round tower and 2 cellars (former dungeons).

Our opinion
A substantial property, not only because of its architectural and environmental features but also because of its size.
There is no doubt that a professional hotel and catering activity would find this setting conducive to its development. The general state of repair is quite outstanding. 37 bedrooms with the possibility of extending within the existing framework and 41 ha (111 acres) of unspoilt, surrounding countryside, we can but imagine the desire aroused amongst those in the profession.
