Medieval to Renaissance-style castle in 40 ha / 98.8 acres
in the Gers
This castle is approx. 100 km (63 miles) from both Toulouse, and Tarbes (airport), and 30 km (19 miles) from Auch, near to a small Gascony town. Built on a slight promontory, it overlooks scenery representative of this region’s pleasant countryside.
In a dominant position, in the heart of its 40 ha (98.8acres), this castle (approx. 800 m² / 8,610 sq ft) saw its first stones laid in the 15th century and therefore bears the features of two influential periods.
From the Middle-Ages, it has its fortifications, its position and its general layout. Thus the rich courtyard is guarded by a tall miniature castle with all the defensive engineering of the era. The buildings comprising the dwelling are protected by robust round corner towers and the courtyard (notably with its perfectly flamboyant gothic-style gates) demonstrates the perfectly balanced aspect of this property.
From the Renaissance period, it has its features and decorative repertory. The galleries providing access to the rooms, the large mullioned windows (some of which were unified in the 17th century) with their listels and the large twisted spiral staircase (a clear symbol of an advanced Renaissance style) are the most obvious features.
As regards the insides, they have been particularly carefully and very cleverly restored throughout. The miniature castle has also been comfortably converted.
A swimming pool and a tennis court (clay) have been very discretely integrated near to the castle
The elegance of the restoration works most certainly equals the elegance of the property. This outstanding transition architecture demonstrates the splendour of the Middle-Ages and the light and delicacy of the Renaissance period, the insides allowing the reflection of personal tastes.
This immaculately kept, cleverly restored property abounds in excellence and would be an extraordinary place in which to live.
