Neo-Renaissance-style manor house in a 27 ha (67 acre) estate near Chantilly
In the varied landscape of the Thelle area with its woods, crops and grasslands set amongst small valleys with streams running through and featuring the banks of the Oise, source of inspiration for more than one famous French writer.
Near to Chantilly, between the A1 and A16 motorways, and not far, approx. 40 km (25 miles), from Paris. Well away from a beautiful rural village, dominating the half fields, half woods countryside, at the end of a tree-lined driveway running alongside the perimeter wall.
In the shelter of its vast wooded parklands, this partly walled property comprises a former tower, once an authentic mill, hidden amongst the trees, outbuildings that include two houses slightly set back, and the castle with its corner tower.
The estate which belonged to the village Dukes has been in existence since 1385. The current castle, dating from 1810, was built by an illustrious, noble family from the old ducal and military nobility on the site of a medieval fortress from 1430 which was destroyed after having been attacked by the English army.
Nestled in approx. 27 ha (67 acres) of game-filled parklands, 30% of which are plains with some superb lawns and 70 % of which are woods comprising a variety of rare species, the castle built of local Creil region stone spans a total living surface area of more than 800 m² (8,611 sq ft).
This three storey building comprises a main building which is made up of two distinct, adjoining elements, and flanked by two towers, all with slate roofs. The entrance porch way takes its inspiration from an Anglo-Saxon style and gives the building the appearance of a “manor house”.
The property also comprises some wonderful outbuildings around a square courtyard as well as this significant vestige which is extremely rare in the French department of Oise and awaits possible renovation. The idea of preserving this “Lieu de Mémoire Historique” (historic memory site) is very dear to the owner of the premises who undertook to restore the property when it was purchased.
An architectural combination that curiously is relatively homogeneous which leaves visitors and even experienced amateurs, feeling good about the estate. Its excellent situation and the quality of its setting are unquestionable. There are numerous external and internal architectural features with no lack of originality and, above all else, the property is in pristine condition.
