Description

The property
Two accesses from the main road, lead to the property, bordered by a wall on two of its sides. The building is situated in 2.3 ha (5.7 acres) of wooded parklands, three quarters of which is plains which have been converted into five paddocks. The seaview from the parklands and the dwelling is outstanding.

The castle
Built by a Frenchman who later set off to make his fortune in America, the castle has been marked by history. It was actually occupied by the Germans during the last war and was visited by General de Gaulle on more than one occasion. This site was also where one of the favourite actors of the French spent the wonderful days of his childhood!
The facades, built predominantly of brick and flanked at two corners by two turrets each topped with a bell tower, feature numerous mullioned windows with views of the coast. On the second floor, a triangular pediment tops three of the windows set in the slate roof, near to a pediment roof dormer. A porch way with a double landing leads to the main entrance of the dwelling.

Flanked by two turrets which were added during a redesigning project, the building has retained numerous original decorative features, notably its parquet flooring and its wainscoting. Spanning a surface area of approx. 600 m² (6,458 sq ft) over three floors, it has some wonderful qualities: spacious, luminous rooms with high ceilings, oak wood, herringbone parquet flooring throughout and tall interior wooden doors that lead into the rooms on this level.
On the ground floor, an entrance hall with the main stairway, a dining room and a lounge both with fireplaces, a kitchen, a back stairway and a study.
Balconies adorn the study and lounge windows.

The two upper floors comprise nine bedrooms, four of which have sloping ceilings, four bathrooms, three shower rooms, three toilets as well as numerous cupboards and vast hall areas.

Our opinion

This property could be the future home of a horse riding enthusiast, or the main residence of a family, or that of a lover of luminous areas or a sailor looking for a home port.
But there is nothing that stops the new owners from being all of the above and wanting to live here.
