Manor house and its outbuildings dating from the 14th century between Dinan and Saint Malo
Location
In the Rance Valley, a property situated on the outskirts of a municipality with almost 3,000 inhabitants between Dinan and Saint Malo, in a setting of woods and grasslands.
There are local shops, infant and junior schools in the village.
Description
This estate, spanning approx. 2.5 ha (6.2 acres), in which stands a manor house and its outbuildings whose origins date back to the 14th century, is accessed through the woods via a narrow driveway, bordered by one hundred year old oak trees.
Built almost in the middle, four buildings with an enclosing wall connecting them form a walled garden.
Beyond this group of buildings, an opening made between two buildings leads to a garden half surrounded by woods and more than 200 m (219 yds) of moats filled with running water.
A 14th century manor house, former stables, a shed, former pigsties, a dovecote with 450 dove-holes in pristine condition and a former well complete the buildings.
Once a large Seigneury that was converted during the French Revolution, this stone manor house with its slate roof has certain interesting preserved architectural features such as window lintels with ogees, and a semi-circular arched doorway topped with a projecting ogive.
The inside of the manor spans three floors and almost 400 m² (4,305 sq ft) with an entrance hall, two lounges, a dining room-kitchen as well as two areas used as laundry and machine rooms on the ground floor. All the living rooms have exposed stone walls, exposed beams and floor tiles. Upstairs, two accesses lead to four bedrooms and three bathrooms with exposed beams and joists. On the second and top floor are three bedrooms each with its own bathroom.
The outbuildings, including stables with double arched twin doors, the former pigsties and the shed, are all in a good state of repair on the outside and easily make it possible to envisage developing the site.
Our opinion
Well laid out around their courtyard, the buildings give the impression that they are protecting one another. A charming setting, just a stone’s throw from Rance, within easy reach of Dinard and Saint-Malo. All in a good state of repair.
