The property
Built in the 12th century, this residence with its rich historic past is situated in the centre of an old village, in a protected, peaceful district. This robust building has sandstone, millstone, brick and limestone walls that are partially covered with Virginia creeper.
The facade, on the courtyard side, and both gables feature white rendered walls; the parklands side facade is of red brick.
Adjoining one of the gable walls is a superb extension which is also covered in white rendering and was most probably built at the end of the 18th century. The other gable wall extends into two small buildings, one of which is built of exposed stone and has an upward-curving hip roof.
The old small tile roof of the main dwelling has two long slopes and is half-hipped at the ends. It features two hipped roof dormers on one side and three gable-fronted roof dormers on the other. The extension has a roof terrace surrounded by pear-shaped balusters.
The quoins, window framing and tops, all toothed, are of stone or covered with a white rendered moulding.
The main dwelling
Flagstones, terracotta floor tiles or oak parquet flooring cover the floors.
In certain rooms, the oak beams are exposed, in one lounge, there is a rustic fireplace (stone mantelpiece and brick chimney breast) and in the other, a white marble, Louis XVI style fireplace.
The stairway with its oak steps and handrail is carpeted.
The ground floor comprises an entrance hall with a toilet; opposite is the stairway and the door leading to the back terrace; to the right is the dining room and the kitchen; to the left is a lounge with a fireplace and a Louis XVI style music room (or study) also with a fireplace.
The first floor includes a small landing room; to the left is a bedroom with a bathroom; to the right are two bedrooms overlooking the terrace and a toilet.
The 2nd floor with its slightly sloping ceilings comprises two bedrooms, a bathroom, two dressing rooms and a toilet.
Various hall areas are to be found throughout the building.
The outbuilding
Forming a courtyard with the main dwelling is an L-shaped, independent, exposed stone building that has an old small tile roof featuring several large gable-fronted roof dormers.
The upper part:
The ground floor, built over a cellar, comprises a kitchen (not fully equipped), miscellaneous storerooms, a laundry room and a machine room.
The upstairs includes a bedroom, a bathroom and a large room with a fireplace (currently a billiards room).
The lower part:
The ground floor comprises a garage, a workshop and a study with a toilet.
The grounds
The house looks out the back at parklands of more than 1 ha (2.47 acres) of grasslands with a pond and various species of trees; some superb paths crisscross the undergrowth.
Please note that planning permission has been granted for the installation of a swimming pool.
Standing in its immaculately kept parklands, this character building with the appearance of a small manor house, is comfortable and full of charm.
Set back from the street, completely unoverlooked behind its high stone walls, the property is totally self-contained, in the protected district of a historic village.
The 18th century extension with its large arched windows, its rosette patterned parquet flooring and its stylish fireplace, bestows a certain elegance on the residence.
The large outbuilding makes it possible to envisage accommodating domestic staff, creating another home or even a professional project uniting accommodation and offices.
Whilst respecting the authentic character of the building, the current owners have added modern-day home comforts so that it can be lived in all year round, but at less than 50 km (32 miles) from Paris, this property would make an ideal weekend retreat for Parisians.
