Description The origins of the property date back to the 13th century, an era when a “châtellenie” was built to provide military, judicial and financial power for a district in the Bourbonnais province. The castle is situated on a limestone spur, dominating a small village and a valley.
Its high walls and towers isolate it from the village which it dominates. The courtyard opens on to the valley, like a suspended garden, providing an amazing view. The medieval vestiges are mixed with buildings built in the 18th century.
The dwelling comprises a building built in the 18th century connected to the keep. This 18th century building was built on the foundations of the old walls; the thickness of said walls reaching 4.9 ft. The four-storey keep was built in the 14th century. Numerous period features from the 14th and 18th centuries adorn the comfortable interior; fireplaces, parquet flooring, indoor shutters, spiral stairway and window seats.
Independent 861 sq ft house.
Two old round massive towers in their original, 13th century condition and an old keep in ruins.
Our opinion Behind the high, slightly austere walls of the medieval fortress hides this romantic, unoverlooked property with amazing views over the surrounding countryside. The 14th century vestiges comprising the towers, the old keep and the defensive curtain walls are interesting features awaiting restoration that still have secrets to be revealed.
