Location In south Burgundy, land of vineyards, gastronomy and history.
In a region with many large economic centres and a high tourist trade due to numerous infrastructures such as motorways, TGV trains, and airports that provide rapid access to large towns, and closely link Lyon, Paris and Geneva.
Description The estate extends over approx. 190 continuous acres. The property is set in a valley; the castle and its service quarters are in the centre, flanked by the vineyard with a forest above (111 acres of woods, 57 acres of grasslands and approx. 22 acres of vineyard). Numerous animals including hind, roe-deer and fawn live in the woods.
Part of the elevation of the castle dates from the 12th century. Some of the components used in construction come from the demolition of the famous “Abbaye de Cluny”. In the 19th century, the owners extended the castle in the fashionable neo-gothic style.
Rectangular in shape, flanked to the east by two square towers, the dwelling is topped with varnished slate. To the west stand two massive round towers covered with lava stone.
The ground floor is dedicated to reception rooms, laid out in the neo-gothic style.
Billiards room, lounge, dining room, library and ladies sitting room.
Upstairs, the bedrooms are decorated in a more sober style. Some rooms await setting up.
The outbuildings are to the east and the north of the castle, thus forming an entrance courtyard, and an inner courtyard opening on to the parklands. The outbuildings comprise two flats, a chapel, former stables, a burial vault and a wine-making plant.
The vineyard has a good reputation, has received gold and bronze medals, and is mentioned in numerous guides. The estate produces white, red, rosé and sparkling crémant Burgundy wines. Annual production is approx. 60,000 bottles.
Our opinion A genuine example of south Burgundy countryside. This estate is very easily accessible and is located in a tourist region.
The castle has two very distinctive styles that of 12th century rusticity, and the complexity of the neo-gothic style. Living in this castle is like being permanently on stage where the flamboyant repertory is illustrated in each of the rooms.
