Between Sologne and Beauce, on the right bank of the Loire, the château is perched in the heart of the beautiful city of Meung-sur-Loire, a town with 6,400 inhabitants.
Dominating the royal river since the Middle-Ages, this historic monument takes pride of place in 17.3 acres of parklands.

Description

On the outskirts of Orleans, there where the bishops resided for 7 centuries, they who saw Joan of Arc oust a few thousand Englishmen entrenched in the aftermath of the siege of Orleans in May 1429, there where all the changes throughout its glorious past are reflected in its architecture.
Its name of “the château with two faces” perfectly evokes the astonishment of visiting tourists.
From the village square that it still seems to be protecting, it looks like a rectangular fortress flanked by three towers; however, from the parklands’ side, it appears as an elegant, 18th century, U-shaped building, the centre of which has become a paved courtyard, and the sole tower is part and parcel of the building.
A total of 131 rooms spanning 30,138 sq ft inside the château.
17.3 acres of enclosed parklands. Stables, a chapel as well as other listed buildings. And all no more than 90 minutes from Paris by train.

Our opinion

There is of course its proximity to Paris, and there is its vast surface area, but above all, there is its impressive architecture, its fascinating history and its 139 steps going down into its amazing subterranean passageways, sheltering a 12th century chapel, whose almost intact vaults still show the blue and red of its multi-coloured decoration. Its statues attributed to Delaistre, placed in the 18th century chapel, its music room with its painted ceiling, and more.
