Close to the Dordogne valley
fortified medieval watermill
On the outskirts of the Périgord Noir and Haut-Quercy, a few kilometres from the Dordogne valley, ranked “Grand Site National” and its surrounding wonders.
In the heart of a protected countryside, the property is set below a wooded limestone cliff still bearing remnants with a tower. Thus backed and sheltered by this barrier forming a natural dead end, it spreads out over 13,6 acres rigorously maintained. Here, silence is disturbed only by the lapping of a crystalline stream or the singing of birds.
Built on the rock, a fortified mill, dating back to 13th and 14th C., rises above a sumptuous shimmering emerald pool formed by the reemergence of a major underwater gallery. A large stone terrace allows you to contemplate this stunning scene. The overflow escapes through beautiful waterfalls at the back, while the water feeds the large vaulted milling hall that still contain the antique mechanisms, as well as a new Kaplan turbine.
Meticulously restored interiors. The rooms are spacious and all have large openings emphasizing the surrounding charm : a large vaulted room with monumental fireplace (73 m2) - forming equipped kitchen, dining room and lounge - open onto a wide terrace ; a large living room with a second monumental fireplace (82 m2) ; 3 bedrooms ; a gallery ; ...
Aside, homelike guest house with studio, apartment, shed and garage ; also a swimming pool. The mill has the status of "usine Fondée en Titre” since the 16th C., and thus has a perpetual right of ownership on the water around.
Once again here is one of the reasons why we love our job so much : to make an unexpected discovery of one of those rare sites that could delight us as much by its beauty as by its singularity. So while we are generally contained in the use of superlatives, let the exception be the rule: this place is wonderful!
