Description
The property
This former fortress, having provided shelter for more than one famous character within its walls, stands in 2.47 acres of parklands with its impressive stature dominating the village. The estate is entirely enclosed by a perimeter wall and fencing with two openings.
The castle (approx. 10,764 sq ft):
This L-shaped construction is built on a shelf with two wings flanked by a round tower and the 17th century entrance gates continued by a wall set at right angles. Built entirely of brick in the 13th century, it underwent modifications in the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries.
Outbuilding:
A small house converted into an independent flat comprises a living room, a bathroom and a bedroom on the mezzanine.
Our opinion
Bricks, large mullioned windows and numerous period features of a marked and often majestic character are omnipresent in what is no longer an austere fortress but a building that is both sober and welcoming at the same time.
The reception rooms, large in size for a building from this era, a vast terrace dominating the parklands and the proximity of a large town and its airport are all assets that make a hotel and catering business an attractive proposition.
