Description The property
The castle, flanked by two wings, stands in the middle of almost 20 acres of parklands, enclosed by walls on three sides. A courtyard spreads out around the periphery of the dwelling. Lawns stretch out on either side. The former moats embrace the access gates. A bridle path which leads to the lake encircles the residence. Numerous outbuildings including the old stables, a farm manager’s house and old farm dating from 1792 to be restored as well as a pool-house and tennis court are contained in the grounds of this former fiefdom. The parklands are planted with rare species of trees, brought back by adventuring ancestors, the eldest of which is a redwood tree over one hundred years old.
The castle
History recounts that it was built for the daughter of a farmer of Louis XIV, before the French Revolution.
Two wings were added to the building when it was completely redesigned afterwards. Roof dormers adorn the facade. A floor surface area of approx. 10,225 sq ft spans 3 stories. Wonderful corridors lead to spacious rooms, made extremely luminous by the numerous windows, letting in natural light and providing views of the parklands and surrounding countryside. With a total floor surface area of 10,225 sq ft, the building comprises living areas that are totally separate from one another.
To the left on entering: a large kitchen with an adjoining back kitchen, via which the stairway leading to the large vaulted cellar is accessed.
To the right: for the ground floor, a lounge, a dining room with pantry, entrance hall, three lounges, a billiards room, library, back stairway, small hallway with exit to the garden, going down to the boiler room, toilet and cupboards.
A first floor comprising eight bedrooms, a linen room, two bathrooms.
A second floor with a wide corridor leading to the two wings in which seven attic rooms with sloping ceilings have been converted.
The outbuildings
Approx. 32,290 sq ft; They are spread all around the property.
One especially large building could be used for exhibitions or any type of function, a farm manager’s house, a farm with its buildings.
A “charreterie” where carriages were once kept with four loose boxes.
A tennis court, a swimming pool and a pool house.
Our opinion This property could be used either as a main residence or as a holiday home, or even for professional purposes such as the organization of all kinds of seminars and functions. The majority of the outbuildings are in a good state of repair and could be converted in accordance with the projects in hand. Given the land surface area and the old stables, it would be possible to accommodate horses. It should be noted that an old, completely enclosed farm is in existence. Peace and quiet is guaranteed by the countryside that extends as far as the eye can see.
