17th century small castle in the Bray region
In a village with approx. 350 inhabitants, in the Bray region in the heart of the Normandy countryside, this property is only 15 miles from Dieppe, elected each year as the kite capital and seaside mecca on the Albâtre coast. Le Tréport is 25 miles away, Rouen 35, Beauvais and its airport with national and international flights 49. Paris (123 miles) can be reached via the A28 motorway which also provides access to Neufchâtel-en-Bray (7 miles). Dieppe is the nearest town with a French SNCF train station.
Cycling and roller skating enthusiasts can enjoy the multi-use path, 164 yards from the property.
An unspoilt setting surrounds the estate which spans just over an acre with an unobstructed view over the undulating countryside of the Caux region. Peace and quiet is the order of the day, despite close neighbours. The buildings comprise the main dwelling, a guest house, a boiler room, a shed and a workshop. German headquarters were based here during the last war.
The main dwelling
Built by an equerry of Louis XIV; one of its lounges has wainscoting from the “Petit Trianon” in Versailles.
The rubble stone facade, enhanced by a slate roof, has 4 shed dormers.
The small-paned windows make the inside very luminous. 3,767 sq ft of living space includes 8 bedrooms with fireplaces and 2 bathrooms, 2 toilets, a study, 2 lounges, one of which has wainscoting, a vast dining room with a monumental fireplace, a kitchen and attic space that could be converted. The floors are of terracotta tiles and floor boards.
Two stairways, one “main” and one “back”, lead up to the first floor. There are numerous cupboards throughout the building. We jokingly say that the house is “perpendicular to the sun setting on Saint Louis’ day”.
The outbuildings
The guest house comprises a lounge, dining room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms, shower room with toilet and a cellar.
A setting that is ideally meant for week-ends.
Although it could accommodate a family as a main residence, a few restoration works would be required, notably on the second floor which is without heating. Full of charm and history, it is an attractive property close to the sea and the surrounding large towns.
