8 km (5miles) from Falaise, 15 km (9 miles) from Argentan and its station with links in less than 2 hours to Paris, Montparnasse, 40 km (25 miles) from Caen and 55 km (34 miles) from the sea and Ouistreham (ferries to England).
Description
Accessed through a gateway and a wrought iron gate, the property is composed of a 15th and 16th century house and its three outbuildings with 4,000 m² (1 acre) of land, enclosed by high stone walls or a hornbeam hedge, recently planted under the older walnut, lime, ash and boxwood trees.
The land is divided into two sections on either side of the main building with, at the front, a crushed stone courtyard and a lawn; the finishing touches are still to be added. Whilst at the rear, there is a walled, wooded, priest’s garden, together with a small raised vegetable garden and a ground water fed well. The buildings, built of Caen stone, are topped with old flat Bavent tile roofs.
The sober but elegantly decorated house has been completely restored, inside and out, and spans a floor surface area of 80 m² (861 sq ft).
There is a “charreterie”, where carriages were once kept, for sheltering cars near to the gate.
The former stables have also been restored and await conversion works on the inside in order to create a guest house.
Our opinion
This peaceful and welcoming site in an unspoilt setting with an attractive property full of charm has recently undergone extensive works to combine modernity and authenticity.
With architectural features from the 15th and 16th centuries, in a region filled with the history of William the Conqueror, it has been harmoniously decorated and is comfortable to live in. New owners would have the added benefit of being able to move in straightaway.
