Former, 17th century farm and its outbuildings, near to Senlis, less than 1h from Paris
Between the loops of the river Oise and the Halatte forest. With its famous mature forests, its numerous hiking trails and its bird migratory paths and stopovers, former favoured lands and thoroughfare of the Kings of France. The surroundings feature authentic hamlets as well as historic sites and classified monuments.
A little way out of town, just a few miles from Senlis, and near to the A1 motorway. Between Compiègne and Roissy-CDG, both about half an hour away. The setting is peaceful and surrounded by countryside.
Originally a farm very probably dating from the beginning of the 17th century, with a garden and an orchard partly enclosed by old stone walls of varying origins.
Several stone buildings extend the main dwelling around a paved courtyard.
On one side, stands a building with a floor surface area of 15m² (161 sq ft). Once a dovecote, it is now converted into three stories of bedrooms. On the facade, between a roof dormer topped by an original projecting stone, and a narrow small-paned window, is a flat stone engraved with mysterious inscriptions.
A wide porch way covered with small flat tiles, a paved floor and exposed beams, connects it to a building with a floor surface area of 40m² (430 sq ft), closed by two double, small-paned French windows. This building shelters storeroom/workshop on the garden level with an attic upstairs and could be converted. To the rear, in the continuity of the property, is a former pigsty still featuring several stalls, half of which has been converted into a vast covered courtyard with an exposed roofing framework; a garage and several small elements. A little way away, an original, half-buried vaulted cellar. A very old wooden door, surrounded by a small stone building topped with a rounded pediment constitutes the entrance. Next to which are two ornamental pools bordered by stones and a well.
Wooded land extending on either side includes a lawn, small informal gardens and an orchard. On one side, alongside the stone wall, is a small greenhouse.
There is a wide view over the surrounding countryside which alternates varying landscapes consisting of woods, fields, pastures and small valleys that hide peaceful lakes.
A particularly pleasant, almost ideal setting, in the countryside, away from a town, both near to Roissy-CDG and Paris, and in the “Golden Triangle” of Royal towns in the French department of Oise.
An old dwelling that has been well restored over the years, with certain home comforts that its owner has managed to combine with some authenticity; it is a most charming residence.
This family-sized dwelling is spacious, but the potential of the buildings make it more than possible to envisage the conversion of additional living space in an outbuilding and, why not, the development of a bed & breakfast or holiday accommodation activity. The possibilities are numerous.
A large house in a superb setting.
