Location 32 miles from Paris on the RN4, close to Nangis (train station, schools, all shops, restaurants, cinema) in a small village in the French department of Seine & Marne.
Description Looked down on by its tower (former dovecote), this authentic medieval residence built in 1228 is set in a lovely landscaped, walled garden of just under two acres, complete with its own well.
Faithfully renovated in keeping with the era, and in a good state of repair, the house is built over three stories including the attic and the tower (conversion possible).
The incredibly thick walls are proof of the building’s distant origins.
Ground floor (11.15 ft high ceilings):
Vast old-fashioned kitchen, a wonderful 484 sq ft living room with terracotta floor tiles, range, ceiling joists and door to the rear garden. Impressive 915 sq ft living room with fireplace, beams and ceiling joists, toilet.
Upstairs: Three bedrooms with parquet flooring, beams, corbels and painted joists, two of which have fireplaces. Dressing room, bathroom, shower room, toilet.
Attic and turret (once renovated both the attic and the former dovecote could be converted).
Basement with wine cellar.
Our opinion A building with rooms which are both spacious and luminous despite its medieval origins and with incredibly thick walls.
The inside has always been skilfully restored since it was built: perhaps due to the fact that it has had an uninterrupted succession of lady owners since the building was given to an order of nuns a few centuries ago.
