The chapel
This former village parish church probably dates from the 11th century. In ruins, it was restored during the second half of the 19th century. There are some sandstone tombstones adorned with raised crosses, but without inscriptions.
In 1969 it was abandoned by its followers and transformed into an exhibition centre.
The inside of the building is rectangular in shape with a recessed choir. The corners of the facade walls are of dressed stone. In the middle of the building, two windows and an arched doorway appear to have been added in the 17th century. To the north, there would be two windows, currently closed up, dating back to the Romanesque period. The choir ends in a hipped gable apse. The bell tower is positioned above the nave, close to the choir. Both apse and choir are currently in use as an open-plan kitchen and a dining room-lounge. The sacristy is transformed into a bathroom. The bell tower and the roof of the building are made of slate.
This church was a place of pilgrimage in the 19th century.
The statues that resided here have been divided between the neighbouring churches.
In addition to the choir, now an open-plan kitchen and the apse transformed into a living room, the inside of the dwelling also contains 3 bedrooms, one of which is on a mezzanine.
An attractive fresco created by an artist who previously occupied the premises, adorns part of the chapel’s vault.
An old crypt is present in the main room, former apse. Statues stand proudly around the outside of this former church.
Vestige of the past and unusual dwelling to say the least, it has preserved all its original architectural features. This place, once a Mecca, has been turned into a family home. A building ideally suited for use as a “cultural centre”.
