Authentic traditional Périgord-style house on the banks of the Dordo

Location

In the Aquitaine region, in the land of fortified towns and medieval cities between Bergerac and Sarlat where the Black and the Purple Périgord meet.
In a climate that is especially temperate and pleasant to live in all year round, this is an ideal spot from which to explore a region that has one of the best tourist trades in France.
An enchanted land made up of magnificent countryside, enhanced by the unchanging Dordogne valley, punctuated with no less than a thousand castles, picturesque villages and universally known prehistoric sites which comprise the “Home of Prehistoric Man”.
Thus, Lascaux radically changed the face of local tourism by becoming the third most visited site in France, after Mont-Saint-Michel and Rocamadour.
In the heart of a former wine producing town, situated on the banks of the river, also a former port, where fishing boats and merchant barges used to moor in olden times, reminding us that water has been the principal means of communication between the Massif Central, the Auvergne and Bordeaux since the Gallo-Roman era.
A village where it is pleasant to live, to take advantage of its small summer food markets and flavourful gastronomy, and to enjoy the numerous outdoor activities on offer in the surrounding area to the full: hiking, pony trekking, canoeing, playing golf (two courses no more than 20 minutes away), potholing, ULM flying, etc.
30 minutes away from Bergerac and its airport with flights to Paris and several English towns, and just a few miles from two train stations.

Description

This authentic traditional Périgord-style house was built in the 19th century on the river bank. Its impressive traditional architectural structure is flanked by two former dovecotes, and spans approx. 2,691 sq ft of living space over three stories. The recently completed renovation works were designed and overseen by an interior architect; they have made the property both comfortable and beautiful.
The rooms are spacious and have been made as luminous as possible by taking advantage of the triple aspect, the best of which gives a wonderful view over the Dordogne: 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, shower room, kitchen, dining room with stone fireplace, lounge with a large, picture window forming a balcony.
Exposed stone and beams, wall recesses, stone sink, restored old wooden stairway, etc.
The lower level comprising 2 rooms including one with a cantou fireplace, awaits conversion. The wooded garden of just under a third of an acre dominates the river bank and features a large terrace to the rear of the building. There is also a private closed-in garage.

Our opinion

For lovers of the Dordogne River, those who wish to be in close daily contact with it, and admire first-hand the changing of its marvellous facets along with the seasons.
A setting not only envied but also sought-after in the heart of a magnificent region, proud of its preserved natural and historical heritage.
