16th C. listed manor house and its
dwelling in the heart of a Corrèze town

Location

Set on the borders of the Corrèze, Creuse and Haut-Vienne departments, in the heart of the outstanding heritage that is the Millevaches regional nature park.
There where the gushing “thousand sources” feed numerous streams and rivers such as the Cher, Vienne, Vézère, Creuse and Corrèze. There where the diversity of the animal and the plant life thrives in the vast heathlands, forests, peat bogs and granite villages. A haven for fishermen as well as hikers and pony trekkers, lovers of wide-open spaces who appreciate the changing pace and colours of the seasons.
Not far from Limoges and Brive (whose airport will have scheduled flights to London and major European cities as of 2008).
In the heart of a large town which seems to have everything to hand. In a calm environment, predisposed to real peace and quiet.

Description

Built on the edge of the square with the 12th century listed parish church, a 16th century ISMH listed Renaissance manor house with 2,583 sq ft of living space over three stories as well as an attic awaiting conversion, accessed via the beautiful stone spiral stairway in its tower; adjoining two storey dwelling (also listed) above a vaulted cellar.
Two small authentic 18th century houses in their original condition; 7,535 sq ft of land with a low-walled courtyard and a garden to the rear of the property. Several remarkable period features: casements outlined in dressed stone, period wood-clad fireplaces, “cantou”, “fourneau potager” (secondary hearth where soups were cooked on embers), bread oven, etc.
Built almost entirely on the vestiges of the former ramparts, this history-filled site, turned into a presbytery in the 19th century, was left derelict for many years before being saved from decay by its current owner in collaboration with architects from the “Batiments de France”: roof and roofing framework completely replaced or restored, beam system consolidated, walls stabilized.
Although the roof and walls are now in good condition, it is worth continuing the restoration works in order to make this manor habitable once more; the dwelling, however, still needs rebuilding.

Our opinion

An obvious potential reserved for lovers of history, architecture and restoration.
For those with a vision who will revel in the extent of the works that will enable them to take advantage of a tremendous tool for providing tax benefits.
