Description

The origins of the property date back to 1554: the royal commander responsible for collecting taxes in the region decided to build his home in a safe place: on the heights, with an unobstructed view and easy to access from the Saône which was already bordered by communication routes. He entrusted its construction to a local sculptor who had already worked on the construction of several local castles.
The architecture is not oversized, but designed to give a maximum of security and to house a family as well as a dozen guards. The Commandery is built in a square with an inner courtyard, richly decorated with sculptures dating from the Renaissance period.
The main building spans approx. 150 m² (1,615 sq ft): Commander’s room, treasury, guard room, kitchen and bedrooms. The inside has been restored with great attention to detail: terracotta tile floors, monumental fireplace and French ceilings.
A secondary building spans approx. 50 m² (538 sq ft).
The outbuildings comprise a succession of cellars, a former wine storehouse dating from the 18th century and the defensive sections: a small keep and watch turrets.

Our opinion

The property has the benefit of a very attractive situation: dominant position with an outstanding view, set in the peace and quiet and yet easily accessible.
The yellow stone makes this building, with its wealth of period features dating from the Renaissance period, extremely welcoming. Unaffected by the passing of time, this not overly large property was restored by a master mason, hence the technical, careful restoration.
