Genuine family house in the heart of the Vercors Natural Park

Location

The great diversity of countryside and relief in the heart of the Vercors Natural Park makes numerous activities possible and eco-tourism, many horse riding centres, mountain sports, rock climbing and paragliding, not even an hour away from the down-hill and cross-country ski slopes, are all there. The Isère and numerous other streams run through the region, leading to the practice of rowing as well as canyoning. Enthusiasts of golf, hunting, fishing and other nature sports will all find their respective havens in the vicinity.
2 minutes from a small town of 7,600 inhabitants (primary and secondary schools, sixth form college) with a motorway exit (A49) and a French TER train station (via Grenoble/Switzerland/Italy).
32 km (20 miles) from a TGV train station (Paris/South-east) and just an hour from Lyon St Exupéry international airport.
This hillside property is built in the middle of unspoilt countryside with the majestic Vercors mountains in the background.

Description

The architecture of this large luxurious home is typical of the region. The property appears in the national registers (map of the sources) as of 1746. It was purchased in 1752 by Paul Pachot d’Arzac, lawyer and Member of the Parliament of Grenoble. The great grandmother of the present owner bought the house in an extremely dilapidated condition in 1921. She restored it and added Art-deco features (fireplaces, floor tiles, stairway, parquet flooring and coffered ceilings). Long used as a holiday home, it was renovated in the 1940’s, and then between 1995 and 2005 and is now a comfortable main residence but its original character remains intact.
Picture windows on the ground floor open on to a large suntrap terrace which, in turn, overlooks the swimming pool. One hundred year old trees surround the house, providing shady areas in summer.
The garden level comprises a spacious entrance hall, a large lounge, a music room, a dining room, a kitchen and its outhouses.
The first floor includes a suite comprising a bedroom, a bathroom and a dressing room, 2 bedrooms with shower rooms, a library-study and a linen room.
The second or children’s floor comprises a wonderful, large games room, a bathroom, a toilet and 3 bedrooms including one with an en suite toilet.
This house is just made for a large family.
120 m² (1,292 sq ft) of caretaker accommodation, currently rented out, barns and workshops complete the property.

Our opinion

Ideal for enthusiasts of mountains and outdoor activities. An extremely pleasant and completely unoverlooked setting in the peace and quiet, with many assets all in one property. An unobstructed view over the Vercors mountains, the location of this property and its layout make it a comfortable family home. It is not in need of any works.
