Late 19th century villa facing the sea

Location

In a well-known seaside resort in the Côtes d’Armor region, a town with 4,000 inhabitants. Approx. 400 km (250 miles) from Paris, 3 hours by TGV train.

Description

A villa and its outbuilding, the origins of which date from the creation of the town at the end of the 19th century. Situated in the peace and quiet of a residential sector, just a few dozen metres/yards from the sea, this villa spanning more than 700 m² (7,535 sq ft) over four stories was completely redesigned and recreated at the beginning of the 2000’s by its current owners. Its slightly dominant position gives a 180° panoramic view over the sea from the first floor.
Its classical seaside villa architecture includes exposed brick and stone; its slate roof features shed dormers.
The house stands out from all others as of the entrance. Visitors are greeted by an indoor swimming pool, set in a projection of the property, illuminated by two rectangular light wells and surrounded by duckboard flooring and white pebbles. A removable walkway provides access into the building. The walkway extends into a vast billiards-projection room, on the right is a bedroom and its bathroom, and on the left a summer kitchen and a machine room; the floor surface area totals 300 m² (3,229 sq ft). There is a laundry room on a half floor.
The 140 m² (1,507 sq ft) first floor includes a vast lounge with an open-plan kitchen and a dining area; a study, and a ladies’ sitting area. The lounge opens on to a vast 150 m² (1,615 sq ft) teak wood terrace with an unobstructed view of the sea.
On the 140 m² (1,507 sq ft) second floor are three bedrooms each with its own bathroom.
The third floor, also 140 m² (1,507 sq ft), includes a vast master suite with sloping ceilings, a double dressing room and study areas, a bathroom, a sauna and a dance studio with its shower room. A balcony runs along part of the width of the house.

The outbuilding consists of a two-storey house built over a cellar and spanning 85 m² (915 sq ft) with a living room, a kitchen and two upstairs bedrooms. There is a small landscaped garden at the back of the villa. The property has two entrances as well as a parking area.

Our opinion

Completely modernised, the property features home automation giving a permanent level of comfort and security to its residents. Every last detail has been taken into consideration with nothing being left to chance; there is even a lift in the house. Everything has been done to provide ultra-modern comfort within a carefully preserved architectural structure.
