The property, composed of a large, luxurious home and its former service quarters, now totally converted into living accommodation, dates from the late 19th century. The property, surrounded by parklands, built on a hillside, has a panoramic view over the green valley and its river.
The land slopes gently down to the edge of the water that it borders for more than 200 m (219 yards).
The main 2-storey dwelling comprises a square building with a round turret backing on to a gable.
The bonding is of stone and rendering. There are toothed quoins and framing of the various shaped windows, which are decorated with mouldings and have cast iron railings.
The main gable roof has a half hip at the gable end, the turret has a hexagonal, candle-snuffer roof, topped with a zinc weather-vane; all are covered with small, old tiles.
Five steps with rounded ends lead up to a stone porch way and the facade unusually features twin doors, sheltered by a rounded, glass canopy.
One door leads directly into the kitchen and the other into a corridor which leads to the other ground floor rooms.
The terrace at the back is also covered by a large glass canopy and can be accessed by three doors; one is opposite the entrance door at the end of the corridor, the two others exit from the lounge and the ladies’ sitting room.
The main dwelling (approx. 140 m² / 1,507 sq ft over a full basement)
Raised ground floor
A corridor leads, on the left, to a kitchen, the stairwell, a ladies’ sitting room and in the tower, a study/library; on the right, to a dining room with a large fireplace and an adjoining lounge. The floors are covered with parquet flooring and terracotta tiles.
An oak wood stairway with its cast iron railings, walnut banister and crystal knob on the newel post, leads upstairs.
1st floor
A small, rounded landing room with cast iron railings and a wooden hand rail, leads straight on to two bedrooms; left to a hall area, a bedroom and a bathroom and toilet in the tower; right to a fourth bedroom.
Basement
A large vaulted cellar, a linen room, a shower room, a toilet and a room laid out with cupboards. The machine room is on the ground floor of the tower and can be accessed from the outside (water/water and gas heat pump).
The outbuildings
A fully renovated, traditional farmhouse (approx. 120 m² / 1,292 sq ft) built at the beginning of the 18th century of exposed stone and rendering with small, local roof tiles. It comprises a lounge, a living room (open-plan kitchen), three bedrooms, bathrooms and toilets as well as an independent studio flat.
5 storerooms or troglodyte cellars spanning between 5 and 20 m² (10.8 and 215 sq ft) are aligned opposite the house.
The grounds
Closed parklands of 1.5 ha (3.7 acres) of grasslands planted with various species of trees: one hundred year old oaks, willows, poplars, purple beech, ash, chestnut, lime, conifers, laurels, boxwood, yew, etc.
A well-kept, enclosed vegetable garden and an orchard: apple, pear, plum, cherry and quince.
Completely unobstructed, the view stretches over the countryside, in an exceptional, natural, protected setting (classified site), on the edge of a river with 220 m (241 yards) of private banks.
In the heart of the countryside, in its riverside parklands, this large, luxurious home with the appearance of a small manor house and the slightly old-fashioned charm of the 19th century pleasure houses, has maintained its authentic character. Its original, decorative features have been preserved: stained-glass windows, panelling, mouldings, rosettes, wainscoting, carved wooden fireplaces, etc.
The nearby, renovated farmhouse means that family or friends can be received in comfortable conditions.
At about 1 hour from Paris, this property would be ideal as a main residence or a holiday home for Parisians.
