Description

This residence, built in the middle of the 19th century, took its inspiration from Anglo-Norman-style seaside villas. Bathing in the sea was fashionable at this time which led to the building of waterside, holiday homes like this one in the Parisian region. Originally, this was very probably a large, luxurious home with its outbuilding. The property (approx. 220 m² / 2,368 sq ft) therefore consists of two closely aligned buildings that are joined together by a brick built gallery on the first floor that shelters a small porch way, providing access to the kitchen via a service door. On this gable wall, a small canopy provides shelter for the door to the cellar (approx. 60 m² / 646 sq ft). The entire property was completely renovated less than ten years ago.
The half-timbered walls are of mill stone, small pink bricks, oak beams and white rendering.
The multi-sloped roof (straight or upward turning slopes, overhanging eaves, hipped, half-hipped and Normandy-style sections and canopies) featuring large two-sloped dormer windows, is covered with small, old brown tiles and rounded ridge tiles.
The miscellaneous shaped openings are all closed by wooden doors and mullioned windows.Completely unoverlooked and easy to maintain, the grounds (approx. 770 m² / 0.2 acres) are laid out with terraces, lawns and wooded areas planted with various species: roses, boxwood, cherry and plum trees, mauve lilacs, yew, laurel, magnolias, hibiscus, mock orange, forsythia, Californian Lilac, etc.
25 m (82 ft) of private banks in front of the property makes a boat mooring possible.

Main building
The entrance hall leads to the left to two adjoining lounges with a view over the river Marne; and to the right to the dining room which communicates with the kitchen at the back. Opposite, an oak stairway leads upstairs to a suite on the left comprising a bedroom with a terrace overlooking the river, a bathroom and a study; and to two bedrooms and a toilet on the right.
A corridor and a stairway comprising several flights lead from this floor to the other part of the residence.
The floors have oak parquet flooring (lounges: herringbone), are tiled or have terracotta tiles. The original decorative features have been preserved: staffs, mouldings, rosettes, wainscoting, large neo-renaissance-style fireplace decorated with carved wood and magnificent multi-coloured, coffered ceilings.

Secondary building
Independent, external entrance and internal access to the first floor.
The ground floor comprises a room laid out as a bar, a studio and a small independent storeroom. The first floor includes two bedrooms and a bathroom.

The outbuilding
A building used as a two-car garage.

Our opinion

The architecture irresistibly brings to mind those beautiful Normandy-style country or seaside residences. A large comfortable residence, full of charm, in an unspoilt setting out of the way of onlookers behind its high, stone walls.

The design of the property is such that it could be shared by a family, with various members living in their own perfectly independent sections.
