Facing the Bay of Veys,
19th century villa

Location

Second fishing port in Calvados situated 35 minutes away from Caen and St Lô, a seaside village that combines the work of the fishing trawlers with water sports and the pleasures of family beaches.
The region is famous for its fresh fish, oysters and scallops which are to be found in the many restaurants in the port and along the coast.

Just a stone’s throw from the D-Day landing beaches and the Regional Natural Park of the Marais du Cotentin and Bessin. In a region whose past is rich in the remnants of many a battle from the ruins of the “du Guesclin” castle to the vestiges of the 1944 D-Day, rich also in an extremely varied architecture, from bare clay to post-war reconstructions and ever rich in a tremendous variety of natural countryside, including the coast, marshland and small irregular-shaped fields separated by hedges and ditches. Access from Paris, Rouen and Caen is made easy by the A13 motorway, 8 km (5 miles) away. The nearest French SNCF train station is 20 minutes away.

Description

This Caen stone property built in the 19th century in the Mansard slate roof style, includes a villa and its former stables converted into a guest house on a plot spanning approx. 2,400 m² (0.6 acres) that is completely enclosed by walls and fencing.

The villa comprises 3 floors of rooms spanning 300 m² (3,229 sq ft) of living space over a 100 m² (1,076 sq ft) basement. All the rooms are extremely luminous and have a seaview.
The guest house is centred around an entrance hall and its stairway leading upstairs, with a large convivial room encompassing lounge, living room and kitchen and featuring a Caen stone fireplace and a bedroom. Upstairs are three adjoining bedrooms with their own shower rooms.
The enclosed garden to the south features flowering bushes and roses in the way of an informal garden.

Our opinion

The villa is full of charm as it has an aura of a solitary sailor’s house but it opens its doors wide to receive family and friends. The overall state of repair of the property means that it can be lived in straightaway.
Situated in a village with many amenities, the pleasures are varied. The fish market for the gastronomists, the sea wind for future sailors with a mooring ring 300m away.
The magnificent 180° view of the sea and the coastline leaves no-one indifferent.
