On the Isle of Yeu,
Gustavian style residence
Visible from the north coast of the French department of Vendee, the Isle of Yeu is half an hour away by motor launch. There are regular sailings from Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie and Fromentine-La-Barre-de-Monts. A helicopter service takes just a few minutes. Nantes international airport is an hour away by road from these ports and Paris is 460 km (288 miles) away. Nantes-Paris takes 2 hours by French TGV train. Yeu is a small, rocky island with creeks and small sandy beaches. Its coastline is similar to that of Brittany with the added bonus of the Vendee climate, renowned for being the sunniest after the French Riviera. Peppered with charming hamlets, renowned for its discreet chic atmosphere, with its limed houses and delicious seafood.
Robustly built about a century ago, the residence dominates Port-Joinville, the island’s main town on the north-east coast. This gothic folly features a stairway tower and machicolation that enhances the silhouette of its roof. Such a building would seem out of place anywhere else but here. Its immaculate white walls and its slate roof stand out against the blue sky and dominate the fishermen’s cottages, giving it a proud, quite natural appearance.
The property was completely and tastefully restored and decorated by the current owners. Their bed & breakfast project is a complete success as is proved by their accounts.
This business has not altered the layout of the house which can become a private home straightaway with no changes required. Although guest reservations have been taken for the coming months, the owners have promised to reorganise the situation if the new owners do not wish to continue the business.
Seven vast luminous bedrooms are set out around the house with superb views of the swimming pool, the garden and the village.
A large dining room and the kitchen overlook a small but well-designed terrace, the immense swimming pool and the garden. There are two lounges on the ground floor and three bedrooms on the first floor. The second floor has three more bedrooms. A terrace takes up part of the roof. 5 bathrooms complete the property. Some of the bedrooms can make up a suite and share a bathroom.
The house spans approx. 320 m² of living space and 115 m² is divided between annexes and sheds.
The atmosphere is peaceful and Gustavian in style; the colours are tones of grey or pastels, with an elegant softness in the fabrics. Everything was well-thought out, including the technical aspects; the house is in pristine condition and is very easy to run.
There is oil-fired central heating and the wooden, double-glazed windows are new.
A property that is perfect for those who love the sea, boats and fishing in immediate proximity to their home.
There are no outstanding renovation works. It is a 5 minute walk to the beach and the fish market.
The newcomers with be able to move in and take advantage of the stylish interiors and all their home comforts straightaway.
The possibility of continuing a well-known, profitable bed & breakfast activity that is listed in the best guidebooks is a very real asset.
Everything has been organised by a master’s hand such that the new owners can but feel comfortable with absolutely no worries. A genuine “turnkey” property.
