Location Just a stone’s throw from the Luxembourg Gardens and a simple brush stroke from the Zadkine Museum.
Sheltered from the street by the adjoining building, a simple wooden gate opens on to a garden of approx. 861 sq ft, at the end of which a “real” artist’s studio has been turned into a house.
Description Redesigned by the current owners in collaboration with a renowned, prize-winning architect, the house extends over two stories and six levels. The work, carried out at the beginning of the 1990’s, is supported and structured by 3 beams and reinforced concrete uprights.
Concrete, glass, wood and metal are combined, intersected, and blended together to let light in. Devised by a master ironsmith, the customized facade was hot-worked using a single die and identical pitch, insulated windows and glazing bead.
Small windows, indoor curved atrium window, living areas on staggered levels accessed by short stairways, slate walls stretching up to the sky, smoothed cement, end-grain parquet flooring, artistic works by way of decoration disappearing into the garden wall, recreate the spirit of the original studio.
Two tie-beams straining against the main horizontal beams, one in concrete form, the other the mast of a boat emphasize the unrefined character of the place.
Our opinion Artist’s studio is a description that is often wrongly used. This is not the case.
Let’s add peaceful, garden, sixth arrondissement and we’ll have the definition of the word “rare”.
The work of this perfect construction does, nevertheless, require the finishing touches that were never completed.
