18th century traditional farmhouse in a dominant position in rural Provence
In a vine growing region with numerous evergreen oaks in the peace and quiet of an authentic village in rural Provence.
75 km (47 miles) from the airport, 35 minutes from Aix-en-Provence and 10 km (6 miles) from the motorway.
A narrow, steep-sided driveway bordered by stone walls leads to this traditional farmhouse which dominates the village. The building, with its small windows, existed prior to the French Revolution, and was transformed into a dwelling of approx. 190 m² (2,045 sq ft) in the 1960’s. The 60 cm to 1 m (1.9 to 3.3 ft) thick walls, together with two old lime trees that shade the terrace, provide a coolness that is much needed in the summer. The west-facing facade makes it possible to watch the sun as it sets.
The main door opens into a large entrance hall that extends into a storeroom, a kitchen with an exposed wood and beamed ceiling as well as a lounge with a fireplace, opening on to the terrace. There is an old wine cellar under the garage which is at one end of the building.
Upstairs, 4 west-facing bedrooms, 1 east-facing bedroom, 1 bathroom and a shower room are accessed via a corridor with a French window that opens on to an old stone stairway, leading to the garden.
The 7,300 m² (1.8 acres) of land which is soon to have planning permission, consists of flat and terraced areas, one of which is reserved for fruit trees.
A covered area for cars has been created at the top of the entrance driveway.
A swimming pool has been installed in a wooded area containing a weeping willow, cedar and cypress trees; there is an unobstructed view from here out over the surrounding hills.
It is easy to fall under the spell of this haven of peace that exudes such a pleasant atmosphere. It is possible to appreciate tranquillity without being isolated as it is but a 5 minute walk to fetch a newspaper and some bread.
