Large, Lalande de Pomerol vineyard

Location

In the region around Libourne, 5km (3 miles) from Saint Emilion, in a commune adjoining Pomerol, in the heart of the world’s most prestigious vine-growing “terroirs”.
15 minutes from Libourne, (French TGV train station) and 60 minutes from Bordeaux and its airport.
This Lalande de Pomerol region is situated on one of the trails that led to Saint-Jacques de Compostelle; which resulted in the building of shelters, hospices and Commanderies, notably, Lalande church and the “Hospitaliers” church dating from the 12th century.

Description

The property spans 22 ha (54.3 acres), 21 (51.9) of which are given over to vines. It is situated on a plateau adjacent to Pomerol and Saint Emilion. This immaculately kept vineyard is one continuous estate. The quality of the “terroir” is exceptional: it consists of argilloarenaceous soil, on a bed of iron slag making it possible to produce strong wines that have body and are full of flavour.
The buildings
• A stone house, typical of the Gironde region, decorated with mascarons. It spans a ground floor and a first floor with spacious rooms. The surface area is approx. 400 m² (4,305 sq ft). It awaits full renovation.
• A large wine storehouse: divided into 3 sections. A stone house currently used as offices, an entrance hall, a large office and a filing room.

Our opinion

The quality of the “terroir”, the highly elaborate and discerning wine-making technique, the special care and attention given to the cultivation of the vines make this vineyard a rare product. It is one of the most extensive vineyards in the appellation; an appellation that is renowned and recognised the world over. However, the property also benefits from a peaceful, restful setting, despite being near to the much visited tourist centre of Saint Emilion.
