A 250 m² designer house dating from the 1960’s with a garden
on the edge of Fausses-Reposes forest in La-Celle-Saint-Cloud

Location

Once the property of Saint-Germain-des-Prés Abbey, the town of La-Celle-Saint-Cloud was acquired by the crown in 1683 and united with Versailles so as to expand the royal hunting estate. Fausses-Reposes forest, with its 630 hectares, was part of this estate.
Today, on the edge of said forest, is the much sought-after district of Châtaigneraie where this house stands. It is 6 minutes’ walk from the train station with 15-minute links to La-Défense and 30-minute links to Gare-Saint-Lazare. The A86 and A13 motorways also make it possible to reach the French capital in 30 minutes. Infant, junior and secondary schools are 15 minutes’ walk away; Lycée-Corneille, with its international sections, is but 10 minutes away. A swimming pool, the municipal theatre as well as numerous shops can be reached on foot in 15 minutes.

Description

This designer house, dating from the 1960’s is ideally located in the much sought-after Châtaigneraie district. It was designed to resemble an artist’s studio with 5 m high atrium windows. Tranquil and steeped in light, its natural surroundings still appear wild due to its proximity with the forest.
The garden level is taken up by a 60 m² suite. The first level comprises a 67 m² reception room, with a fireplace, that includes an open-plan kitchen, overlooking the garden, as well as another 28 m² suite. The second level has three bedrooms, a shower room and a bathroom with a shower. The enclosed 478 m² garden includes a terrace and a Jacuzzi. The garage can house two cars. This property recently underwent renovation works, both inside and out. These involved the redoing of the electric wiring and the central heating as well as the installing of reversible air-conditioning and an alarm system with a camera.

The house

Wide gates open into a courtyard, a section of which is planted as a bamboo grove. Characteristic of the 1960’s, the house’s brick and glass facade is shaped like a cube. The front door is glazed.

Ground floor
The glazed vestibule provides access to a lobby which opens into a dressing room, the first room of a brand new, 60 m² suite that looks out over the garden. It comprises a bedroom fitted with numerous built-in cupboards as well as an Italian shower and a toilet. A French window opens on to the garden. A stairway, with its refined lines, goes upstairs.
First floor
The reception room, with its picture window taking up the entire facade, is stunning. Just like the atrium window of an artist’s studio, it lets copious amounts of light into the amazingly spacious room, spanning 67 m² with a 5 m high ceiling. The geometric lines of the railings on the stairway going up to the second floor and the straight lines of the fireplace match the verticality of the atrium window. The lower section, delimited by the balcony corridor upstairs, forms a cosier living room. The open-plan, fitted kitchen, also part of this room provides access via a wooden stairway to the garden and the Jacuzzi. A discreet door leads to a suite, comprising a bedroom and a bathroom with a shower and two wash-hand basins, both rooms facing the forest, as well as a dressing room and a separate toilet.
Second floor
At the end of the wide balcony corridor, providing access to the rooms on this level, is an open space that could be used as a study area. This floor comprises a bedroom with its shower room and toilet, two other bedrooms and a bathroom with a shower and two wash-hand basins, illuminated via a skylight. All the bedrooms look out over the forest.
The garden
This well-balanced garden, planted with just a lawn and two tall trees, is a haven of peace that extends naturally into the immense Fausses-Reposes forest, predominantly comprising oak and chestnut trees.

Our opinion

The refined lines of this house create a spectacular contrast to the exuberant forest, adjoining the property and spanning hundreds of hectares. A contrast that in no way clashes as its vast rooms are flooded with daylight via its vast windows which contemplate the overgrown natural setting. Dating from the 1960’s, this residence has acquired modern-day home comforts following the recent works carried out in keeping with its original architecture. Whatever their way of life, new owners will be able to reorganise the use of its rooms courtesy of its many entrances and its layout which keeps bedrooms and suites independent. Urban because of its proximity to Paris, flexible because of its very design, this house resembles a blank page, discreetly marked into squares, just waiting for new pencil strokes.
