Location

In the south of the French department of Finistère, 11 km from Quimper, a prefecture exuding character, with its airport and TGV train station putting Paris-Orly only 75 minutes away and Paris-Montparnasse 195 minutes away.
The Cornouaille region has a particularly long coastline. The Glénans archipelago and Benodet’s beaches are less than 30 minutes away; other sites to explore or visit again include Raz Point or even Pont-Aven, known for its art studios.

Description

This property, in heavily wooded, hilly countryside, adjoins the church precincts of a 15th century gothic-style chapel, housing a famous altarpiece. It is set in a protected sector, free of any nuisances. In front is a small wooded square where a weekly market selling organic produce is held. The presence of a fountain, supposedly with healing powers, a little further away in a field bears witness to a site much-visited in the past as, according to tradition, its waters cured fevers.
A wide gateway, flanked by two tall lime trees, provides access into a courtyard, facing the manor house. A building, on the right-hand side, has been converted into a holiday rental accommodation unit; another is in use as a workshop. A very long house comprises two separate homes. A carpark at the back can take ten or so cars.
This property is set in approx. 5,200 m² of land.

The manor house

This rectangular residence, constructed of granite with a slate roof, dates from 1740. It spans approx. 175 m² of living space over two levels.
The front door opens directly into a large, 48 m² room with a fireplace and an open-plan kitchen. A door on the right-hand side leads to a corridor providing access to a stairway and a bedroom with a fireplace, a bathroom and a toilet. A small rear extension comprises a laundry room, a shower room and a toilet.
Upstairs, a corridor leads to two bedrooms, with mezzanines, a shower room and a toilet as well as a bedroom, with a shower room and toilet.

The traditional local farmhouse

This long, granite building, topped with its slate roof featuring roof dormers, comprises two separate homes. The one on the left-hand side, spanning a floor surface area of approx. 163 m², includes a large lounge, with a hanging metal fireplace, Burgundy stone floor tiles and a spiral, wrought iron stairway, an open-plan kitchen, a bedroom, with a shower room, and a toilet. The first floor landing provides access to a shower room, a toilet and 2 bedrooms.
The right-hand section, spanning a floor surface area of approx. 225 m², comprises a bedroom with an atrium window and a shower room, a toilet, a laundry room, a fully fitted kitchen with stone work surfaces and a stone sink, as well as a large lounge with a metal, corner fireplace. Upstairs are a large dressing room, 2 bedrooms, a shower room and a toilet.

The holiday rental accommodation unit

This unit, spanning a floor surface area of approx. 45 m², comprises a large room with an open-plan kitchen, a bedroom and a shower room with a toilet. It has been converted to provide easy access for disabled persons.

The workshop

This workshop spans a floor surface area of approx. 29 m².

Our opinion

The current owners of this priory carried out works lasting four years in order for their guests to feel at home in this spot, resembling a retreat, in the midst of the countryside and yet so near to one of France’s most beautiful coastlines. Everything is in place for the activity to be continued, especially as the renovation works were meticulously carried out, notably with regard to the choice of materials. So well in fact that this manor house and its annex buildings can stand proudly next to its immediate neighbour, a gothic-style chapel with its atrium windows and its spire as well as its sacristy with its roof in the form of an inverted ship’s hull. The exploration of Brittany’s heritage begins just a stone’s throw from the residence.
