Description

A little lane, off the road on a lower level, provides a first glimpse of this property with its gatehouse standing at the entrance. Once through the entrance gates, a long alleyway leads through gardens and meadows, crossed by a stream, to a 19th century manor house which is partially enclosed by walls. Its outbuildings comprise houses, vast sheds, farm sheds, a greenhouse and a tennis court. This property is set in some 15 hectares of land.

The manor house

This manor house was constructed around 1850 in accordance with a rectangular layout, one half of it being double the depth of the other. It has a square tower with a pyramid roof. South-facing, it stands in a dominant position looking out over its natural surroundings. It spans almost 550 m² of living space over one or two levels under attic space. It has a slate roof. The central, protruding section is flanked by two extending wings. Its openings feature segmental arches on the ground floor and semi-circular arches on the first floor. Above the front door, the central bay comprises a first floor balcony. The tracery in the openings contained in the right-hand wing reveals a flamboyant gothic style motif. The second level of the left-hand wing is under the rafters, illuminated via triangular pediment hanging roof dormers.


Ground floor
The entrance hall, with its tiled floor, leads, right, to a 44.5 m² lounge, with panelled walls and a ceiling adorned with a dentil cornice. Double doors are topped with a neo-Renaissance style fanlight. The right-hand wing contains a conservatory. A dining room is on the left-hand side of the entrance hall. It too has moulded wall panelling. The fireplace mantel, also wooden, features a sober neo-classical style. The parquet flooring is laid in a randomly-matched pattern. A corridor in the left-hand wing leads to a study, a small dining room, a bedroom with a bathroom, a storage area and a stairway. The main stairway goes upstairs from the entrance vestibule which also provides access to a toilet, a door to the cellar, a corridor leading to a storeroom, a linen room, a kitchen and a back kitchen.
First floor
This level, reached via two stairways, comprises six bedrooms, four bathrooms, a dressing room, two corridors housing cupboard space and a toilet.
Second floor
This level, under the rafters comprises an entrance hall leading to a bedroom, a storage area and an attic. The stairway continues to another bedroom and its bathroom at the top of the tower.
Basement
The basement houses the boiler room.

The outbuildings

This property comprises numerous outbuildings, starting with a caretaker’s cottage standing at its entrance. Around the manor house are two houses, two buildings used for storage and workshop purposes, a farm shed, a function room, premises awaiting renovation, a greenhouse, a swimming pool, a pool-house and a tennis court.

Our opinion

This property, in the countryside and almost by the sea, has no nuisances. The region exudes a strong character and has a good communication network. This perfectly elegant residence was built sufficiently early in the 19th century such that it has no pretentious stylistic features. The interior decoration is refined. The outbuildings are full of potential and will lend themselves to whatever ideas the new owners might have for these enchanting premises.
