The town, with some 9,500 inhabitants, has a train station with links to Paris and numerous bus routes. State and private secondary schools and sixth form colleges as well as all shops and amenities. Crossed by the river Marne and the river Le-Petit-Morin, the site is picturesque and the forest close by.

Description

Dating from the 19th century, this property was built of rendered millstone grit with dressed stone quoins on the old ramparts of Condé Castle. It has a zinc and slate Mansard style roof.
This house stands in parklands which have a pastoral view over the river Marne and its verdant banks. On the courtyard side, the house looks out over a nice, peaceful street. It is accessed via large wrought iron gates and a small pedestrian gate. The parklands are delimited on the garden side by the ramparts that look down on the river, out of reach therefore of flooding.

The residence

This residence, comprising three levels, excluding the cellar, stands between courtyard and garden. Its architecture on the courtyard side is marked by a tall cathedral window which illuminates the stairway as it spans all three floors. A stairway with a stone porch way leads to the main entrance, another one in the same style but parallel to the facade provides access to the back entrance on the rear facade. The roof features a bull’s eye window and pediment roof dormers.

Ground floor
The main entrance opens into a vestibule featuring floor tiles inlaid with decoration. It provides access, on the right-hand side, to a lounge with herringbone pattern, oak wood parquet flooring and a Louis XVI style fireplace. Its terrace is adorned with superb stone railings and an admirable view. Opposite are a ladies’ sitting room with oak wood parquet flooring and a dining room with parquet flooring as well as a kitchen with floor tiles and its pantry.
First floor
This floor is reached via a majestic stairway with wrought iron railings, the stairwell being steeped in light courtesy of the tall cathedral window. There is strip pattern, oak wood parquet flooring throughout on this floor. It comprises a landing, a toilet, a bathroom, a first bedroom with a balcony featuring stone balusters, a linen room, a hall area, a second bedroom (or study) with a Louis XVI style brick and stone fireplace, a third master bedroom illuminated via two windows, providing a magnificent view over the river Marne, as well as an adjoining shower room and, lastly, a fourth bedroom with its shower room.
Second floor
The landing on this floor provides access to two bedrooms with strip pattern, oak wood parquet flooring, one of which has its own adjoining bathroom and toilet, a dressing room and a lounge-library closed by double doors. This superb room, with a marble fireplace, is steeped in light via two windows and a bull’s eye window.
Basement
This semi-underground level is reached via the garden. Old terracotta tiles cover the floor. It comprises an old wash-house, a boiler room, a wine cellar, a large room, a shower and a toilet, both extremely practical after time spent in the garden.

Our opinion

This superb luxurious residence, its appearance typical of the 19th century, is without doubt one of the most outstanding in the town. Its highly romantic setting together with the advantages provided by its town centre position are the perfect compromise for a family seeking to leave Paris and take up residence in rural surroundings within fast and easy reach of the French capital, both during the week and at weekends. Courtesy of its location, the town’s residents can also quickly reach Val-d'Europe, its shopping centre, its TGV train station and its Euro-Disney attraction park as well as Roissy-CDG airport.
