Location

This manor house stands equidistant between two villages, with all shops and amenities, some fifteen minutes from the town of Angers, its TGV train station providing 90-minute links to Paris with more than 10 return journeys per day.

Description

A tree-lined alleyway, off the road, crosses a large meadow and leads to a semi-circular forecourt, closed by a wall. In the centre of said wall are wrought iron gates, flanked by freestone pillars. The gates open on to a circular driveway that provides access, on the north side, to a first lodge and garages, on the east side, to the manor house and a barn, on the south side, to the parklands and, on the west side, to a second lodge.

The manor house

This manor house, constructed in the 17th century, comprises a ground, first and second floor, under a hip slate roof, topped with a small bell-tower. The framing around the openings, the quoins and the modillion cornice are made of freestone, just like the roof dormers which feature curved pediments above the left-hand section and triangular pediments above the slightly prominent section on the right-hand side.


Ground floor
The manor house has an entrance hall at each end. Between them are an adjoining lounge and dining room. One of these two entrance halls also houses a toilet whilst the other provides access to a kitchen and a pantry, extended by a linen room. The kitchen has a door opening on to a hall area which leads to a cold room, a boiler room, a cellar and a toilet. The reception rooms feature terracotta floor tiles, exposed ceiling beams and freestone fireplaces. A first single-flight, quarter-turning, stone stairway, reached from the lounge and the dining room, goes up to the first floor. A second single-flight, quarter-turning, wooden stairway also goes up to the first floor from the kitchen and linen room.
First floor
The stone stairway leads to a landing room, currently in use as a study. It provides access to a large lounge, a bedroom and a hall area, leading in turn to a shower room, a toilet and a bedroom with a bathroom and toilet. This hall area communicates with the landing of the second wooden stairway. Terracotta floor tiles are laid throughout this level. The large lounge features exposed ceiling beams and a monumental freestone fireplace. The landing room, with half-timbered walls, houses a single-flight, quarter-turning, wooden stairway going up to the second floor.
Second floor
On one side of the second floor landing is a bathroom with a toilet; on the other side, a small bedroom. Opposite, a corridor provides access to a large games room, a bedroom and an attic. The games room features terracotta floor tiles, exposed beams forming the roofing framework and a monumental freestone fireplace. It is illuminated via four roof dormers.

The outbuildings

The outbuildings include two lodges, a barn used for storage purposes and covered areas in use as garages, one of which communicates with the kitchen. Both lodges have been completely converted. The first, spanning approx. 60 m² comprises a living room, a kitchen, a shower room and a toilet on the ground floor with a bedroom upstairs. The second lodge, spanning approx. 45 m² includes a living room with a kitchen area on the ground floor; upstairs are a bedroom and a shower room with toilet. The living room in the second lodge features terracotta floor tiles and a freestone fireplace with a bread oven.

The parklands

The parklands comprise three sections, two meadows on either side of the access driveway, a landscaped, wooded courtyard in front of the manor house and a lawned garden, planted with trees and fruit trees, with a row of lime trees at the end.

Our opinion

Its dimensions, the discreet decor of its facade under a steep slate roof, the driveways leading to the chateau as well as the architectural interest of its outbuildings all contribute to the appeal of this manor house. Similarly, the interior is sober, distinguished and welcoming. The freestone adds clarity and luminosity. The exposed roofing framework, in the form of a flat-bottomed inverted hull, in the games room is spectacular. Good taste has obviously prevailed throughout all of the renovation and maintenance works. The family will be able to choose between several monumental fireplaces before settling down by the hearth. The outbuildings are all ready to accommodate family, friends or paying guests.
