Description

A narrow winding road leads from the neighbouring village to the site of the manor house, set on a hillside. A driveway leads from the tall entrance gates, alongside the outbuildings, to the dwelling, the main building of which is flanked by two wings, forming a U-shape. The parklands, extending southwards comprise numerous trees, including an outstanding lime tree as well as two wells, one of which resembles a chapel. The unobstructed view from the manor house takes in the village and its listed church.

The manor house

Built of quarry blocks and stone, the framing around the openings and the cornices are made of freestone. It comprises a ground and a first floor with a second floor under the rafters. There is a large cellar under the central section of the manor house.
The slate roof features facade dormer windows topped with triangular pediments made of freestone. The dormer window above the entrance door is adorned with a coat-of-arms and bears the date 1640.


Ground floor
The ground floor comprises an entrance hall which has a straight, wooden stairway with a toilet underneath it, a dining room, a lounge and a bedroom with freestone fireplaces as well as a kitchen and a bathroom. All these rooms have terracotta floor tiles and exposed ceiling beams.
First floor
The first floor comprises four bedrooms, two of which have freestone fireplaces, and a bathroom with a toilet.

The outbuildings

A large covered courtyard which constitutes the manor house’s north wing stands on the site of a former chapel. It currently houses the boiler room and is used as a garage. It is extended by a building with a brick floor, spanning approx. 40 m² and divided into three rooms. Another building, spanning a floor surface area of approx. 130 m², comprises a former cowshed, currently in use as a workshop, a former stable and a barn with a hayloft upstairs.

Our opinion

The choice of materials, the diversity of its fireplaces and its stone stove, its slate roof and the quality of the building works make this a very traditional manor house. It unexpectedly contributes to the wealth of architectural heritage because of the inversion of proportions on its facade, an unusual affectation that adds to its authentic charm. It can be lived in straightaway.
If its 350 m² of living space is not enough, the north wing, currently in use as an outbuilding, could be converted and integrated into the residence.
