200 km from Paris and 30-35 km from Le-Mans as well as Alençon. A slip road for the A28 motorway is 15 km away. Le-Mans TGV train station has 55-minute links to Paris-Montparnasse. This manor house is in a village, 2 km from local shops, and some 10 km from two small towns with all amenities including schools, sixth form colleges, a music school, a billiards club, cultural and sports centres, a cinema, shops as well as a hypermarket.
The Normandy-Maine regional nature park and the majestic Perseigne forest are nearby.
The Haute-Sarthe region has a heritage comprising many religious buildings. The area is also ideal for practising nature sports, hiking, mountain biking and horse riding. A wide range of activities makes it possible to explore its landscapes and hidden treasures.
The manor house
This rectangular, west-east-facing residence spans three levels. Its hexagonal tower houses a stone stairway, the newel of which is engraved with the date 1391. The roof, comprising a wooden framework typical of the 15th century, with rafters forming trusses and covered with old local tiles, has been redone. The walls are rendered. Dressed stone forms the quoins and the framing around the openings. It comprises moulded mullioned and/or transomed windows, oak wood frames and indoor shutters. Old or new terracotta tiles are laid on the floors. Decorative features characteristic of the construction periods abound with fireplaces, window seats, a bread oven, a stone sink, a salting room, etc. With south-facing openings, high ceilings throughout, large windows and through light, the interior is not cut off from its natural surroundings.
The guest house
This rectangular, single-storey building is partially constructed over a cellar. It can be reached via a little stone stairway on the west side. The roof is covered with old local tiles. The floor is laid with terracotta tiles. The large living room features a fireplace. This guest house is heated by electric radiators.
The outbuildings comprise an old barn, currently in use as a garage, a storeroom and two workshops with accessible attic space, the floor of which has been redone with chestnut wood flooring. The floors, walls, oak wood roofing framework and roofs were all redone some fifteen years ago.
A vegetable garden and a small ornamental pool behind the manor house can be reached by crossing a rose garden. In front of the residence is a topiary garden, then, concealed behind a hornbeam hedge, in another style, are an orchard, planted with trees that provide much needed shade during the hot summer afternoons, vines and flower beds bordered with boxwood. A view of the church completes this verdant scene.
Structural works and those to install modern-day home comforts carried out twenty or so years ago have not altered the authenticity of this residence. Living here is like having one foot in the past and one in the present which makes it easy, for example, to get to the manor house if it is used as a holiday home. The unity of style inside the residence, with its Renaissance windows, its French ceilings and its monumental fireplaces, is enhanced by the variety to be found in the gardens. There is a good chance that the new owners will appreciate both equally.
