magnificent setting 130 km from Paris in Normandy

Description

This manor house, reached via a narrow village street, stands at the end of a long alleyway, lined by tall trees. Said alleyway crosses 4.5 ha of grasslands planted with one hundred year old trees, bordering a dovecote dating from the 17th century, outbuildings as well as a guest house or caretaker’s cottage.
There are no nuisances to disturb this landscape.
Extension work adjoined a building to the manor house in the 19th century and added a keep in the 20th century.

The manor house

Although the 17th century manor house constitutes the central building of this dwelling, the modifications that took place over the last centuries have greatly modified its general appearance. The facade of the oldest section features brick and flint. A porch way reached via steps with an intermediate landing and railings, provides access to this dwelling. The facades feature numerous, small-paned, casement windows. The central building and its added wings have their own accesses from the outside and intercommunicate on the inside. The slate roof, topped with steeples, features Jacobin-style roof dormers on either side. The living space spans approx. 900 m², 500 m² of which are converted. It is spread out over the ground and two upper floors.
The three levels of the keep, reached via a concrete stairway, form three identical rooms.
The upper floors of the 20th century, right-hand wing are also of an identical layout. Some rooms are undergoing restoration works. A geothermal heating system is in the process of being installed to complement the existing system. All the rooms in the dwelling are vast with very high ceilings. The central, 17th century building still has its old panelling and floor tiles. An awning protects a French window providing access to the parklands.

Ground floor
From the right-hand wing, redesigned in the 19th century:
- An entrance hall with the main stairway straight on. A lounge on the right-hand side. Three rooms on the left-hand side with access to two basement cellars, a toilet.
- Straight on, access to the central, 17th century building. A vestibule leads to a French-style kitchen, a dining room and a lounge with panelling; all intercommunicating.
- Access from the lounge to the 19th century tower, the ground floor of which comprises a vast room.

First floor
A landing room provides access to three bedrooms, including one with a terrace, a bathroom, a dressing room, two shower rooms and the attic above the central building. The conversion of said attic is incomplete but it has double-glazed openings between fully insulated walls. It communicates with the 2nd level of the tower.
Third floor
Only in the tower (left-hand wing) and the added building (right-hand wing).
A landing room, two bedrooms, a bathroom, a dressing room and a shower room in the wing; a room in the tower, with an adjoining outside terrace.

The outbuildings

A barn spanning approx. 150 m².

The caretaker's cottage

3 bedrooms, a bathroom, a lounge-dining room and a kitchen, spanning a floor surface area of approx. 60 m².

The tower

A total floor surface area of approx. 150 m² spread over 4 levels and 4 rooms.
Balcony-terraces spanning approx. 50 m².

The dovecote

Awaiting full restoration works.

Our opinion

Although major redesigning works have somewhat changed the initial layout of this manor house, its successive owners have each contributed to its modernisation by instilling the style of their own era. The result is a surprising dwelling. It would appear, given its geographical location, particularly well-suited to a commercial activity.
