This property, set in undulating, wooded surroundings can be reached via little lanes going through the verdant countryside, composed of small irregular-shaped fields separated by hedges and ditches, to the La-Colonne Valley, classified as a “European Zone” and protected by “Natura 2000”.
The house stands in the peace and quiet of a little hamlet, composed of just seven houses. Well-concealed, it is surrounded by green belt pastureland, facing the forest and crossed by a river. Paris is 180 km away (Porte-Maillot); Deauville, Trouville and Honfleur are some 40 km away; the nearest village with local shops and amenities is 3 km away; the train station, about 12 km away, has numerous direct 85-minute links to Paris-Saint-Lazarre.


Entrance gates open on to a gravel drive that leads to the house, beautifully set in parklands spanning about a hectare. The land slopes gently down to a river, flowing past on a lower level, such that the house is not liable to flooding.
Several outbuildings, including a guest house, a log cabin as well as outbuildings (garage, shed and woodshed), have been constructed in these harmonious planted parklands which also include a swimming pool.

The house

This traditional, 18th century Norman house spans two levels. Spacious and comfortable, it has no need of any works.
Its facades, composed of the half-timbering and cob typical of the region, are constructed on stone and flint lower sections. The entire building is topped with a roof covered with small, old, local tiles and featuring shed dormers.
Facing south, it is bordered by an old paving stone terrace, ideal for relaxing and for taking meals outside during clement weather.
It has wooden-framed, small-paned openings as well as large picture windows between the half-timbering, making the rooms particularly bright.
This house has been restored in accordance with good trade practices and meticulous attention has been given to the use of old 17th and 18th century materials.

Ground floor
This level has floors covered with terracotta tiles from the Auge Country as well as Italian tiles which, together with exposed ceiling beams and other decorative features, all add to the character of the premises. A lounge with a monumental fireplace and a dining room. The kitchen has a door leading outside on to a little shady terrace. This room is fully fitted, all the domestic electrical appliances being ingeniously concealed behind wooden doors taken from railway carriages. A narrow, old oak wood stairway going upstairs and an old chateau granite roof dormer transformed into a fireplace bestow this room with a particularly convivial atmosphere. A bedroom with a fireplace, featuring a walnut wood mantel, and a small adjoining bathroom, with a wash-hand basin and toilet.
First floor
A walkway above the kitchen links two spacious bedrooms, with sisal matting, laid out under the rafters. The first, spanning approx. 30 m², has a fireplace, a study area and cupboards, as well as an adjoining bathroom, with a bath, two wash-hand basins, a massage shower unit, a toilet and cupboards. The second, with a study area and an adjoining shower room, with a shower, a wash-hand basin and a toilet, can be reached from the outside via an independent wooden stairway.

The guest house

The architecture of this small house, spanning approx. 20 m², reflects that of the main house. It was entirely redone in 2010 using old, noble materials (18th century beams, cob, small bricks, square terracotta tiles, small local roof tiles, etc.).
Its internal layout comprises a bedroom, with a cathedral ceiling, and a bathroom, with a wash-hand basin and a toilet.
Heating is provided by electric radiators.

The log cabin

This cabin, constructed from wooden logs, spans approx. 15 m². Facing the lake, it has a minimum of modern-day home comforts: cold water, electricity, a Godin wood-burning stove and cupboards.
It is ideal for fishing parties or for relaxing by the waterside.

The outbuildings

Two wooden sheds for vehicles extend into a lean-to used for storing gardening furniture and tools. A woodshed, approx. 40 m long, screens off the little country lane.

The parklands

Enclosed by hedges as well as fencing, these immaculately kept parklands, with their lighting system, span a surface area of approx. 1 hectare. They are crossed by a first category river which feeds a lake, spanning approx. 3,000 m² and comprising a little islet and a jetty. Said lake was cleaned out and the banks reinforced with wooden weatherboarding in 2017. Numerous trees over a hundred years old of varying species enhance these parklands. A small, raised vegetable plot makes it possible to grow a few vegetables and herbs.
And lastly, a 12x4.5 m swimming pool, heated via a heat pump, is out of sight of onlookers. It was constructed in 2012 with exotic wood edging, an electric cover and a made-to-measure winter tarpaulin.

Our opinion

This property exudes the air of a luxury country house, creating pleasant feelings of well-being amongst its residents.
A dream holiday home, it is the ideal place to recharge one’s batteries and to live organically for a weekend or longer.
