Location

The Tamaris district, which borders the Bay of Lazaret south of Toulon harbour, was designed at the end of the 19th century by Michel-Pacha. His aim was to recreate the atmosphere of the banks of the Bosphoros where he had made his fortune. This house, in the peace and quiet near to the sea, is but a 5-minute walk from the shuttle boats which cross the harbour to Toulon (market, TGV train station). Hyères airport is 40 minutes away, that of Marseille 70 minutes away and the motorway 10 minutes away. Shops are less than 5 minutes away by car.

Description

This south-east facing house, spanning approx. 172 m², was constructed in 1998 in the parklands of a residence dating from the 19th century. With plain, functional architecture, it was built using top quality materials. A swimming pool was installed two years ago near to the living room. A small back courtyard, under the evergreen oak trees, provides a shady place to relax in the summer. The garden’s dry stone walls are an aesthetic asset. The grounds span approx. 1,150 m².

The house

This house is composed of two sections, one set back from the other. Three picture windows on the ground floor make it easy to go outside.


Ground floor
The main entrance hall is on the north side, near to a bedroom and a shower room. A kitchen, on the south-east side, opens into the dining room and the lounge, bordered by picture windows that provide easy access to the terrace around the swimming pool. The lounge, with its fireplace, opens on to a patio on the west side. Under the oak trees, it is bordered by a dry stone wall and is very pleasant during the hot summer months. A storeroom-laundry room completes the ground floor.
First floor
The entrance hall houses the stairway that goes upstairs to a corridor leading to 3 bedrooms, one of which has a balcony overlooking the verdant surroundings and two that have a glimpse of the sea. The remaining space comprises a bathroom, with a shower and a toilet, another bathroom with a toilet and a small storage room.
Outbuilding
A small building, spanning approx. 12 m², borders the interior courtyard and can be used for storage purposes.
The swimming pool is surrounded by a travertine stone terrace. It is separated from the lawn by a dry stone wall, in which a space houses the machinery.

Our opinion

Although the sea is very near, the swimming pool is much appreciated. The profile of the house is sober, the dry stone wall in the garden was made to last just like the 19th century constructions surrounding it. The inside is tastefully laid out and some of the furniture is for sale. It is very tempting, for the holidays or even all year round, to live in an easy to maintain house that is in pristine condition and go into town by boat courtesy of the shuttle.
