48 km from Paris via fast roads including the A4 motorway, followed by the N4, Rozay-en-Brie exit, and ten or so kilometres. Reached by train from Paris-Gare-de-l'Est to Marles-en-Brie station 35 minutes away. Chessy RER and TGV (Eurodisney) train station is 23 km away.
This house is in a quiet, little village.

Description

Superb, partially wooded parklands are entered via three gateways, two of which have remote-controlled gates. A main driveway leads to the front entrance. The L-shaped house, once the farm attached to a chateau, elegantly stands almost in the middle of its parklands. A large terrace, laid out for the summer months, makes the house welcoming all year round.
A covered, lock-up, 4-car garage precedes the house on the edge of the driveway. Two wooden sheds stand in the parklands behind the house. A well contributes to the pastoral atmosphere of the premises.

The house

The facades of this old, L-shaped farm building, redesigned in the 19th century, are made of rendered millstone grit. The roof, covered with local flat tiles, features skylights which have been replaced. This house spans two levels, a ground floor and an upstairs under the slopes of the roof.


Ground floor
The front door opens into a hall, paved with flagstones and featuring exposed ceiling joists. An attractive spiral stairway goes upstairs. On the left-hand side of the entrance hall are two bedrooms, with parquet flooring and exposed ceiling joists. Straight on is a shower room with a toilet. A welcoming kitchen, on the right-hand side, features a central unit and opens into a dining room, followed by an extremely bright, double, through living room. One of these two lounge areas, separated by a flight of steps, is very cosy and ideal as a television room, whilst the other is more of a sunroom. Following on, at the very end, is a vast study which has its own entrance door. It is enhanced with a fireplace, terracotta floor tiles and exposed ceiling joists. A strongroom adjoins the study and a little stairway leads to a spare room, with terracotta floor tiles, which could be used for a multitude of purposes. There is also a boiler-laundry room. The section comprising the study, the strongroom and the spare room could form a self-contained unit.
First floor
This level is partially under the slopes of the roof. A walkway, crossing above the living room, links the two ends of the house. A large bedroom on the left-hand side communicates with a small attic space. The billiards’ room, on the right-hand side of the walkway, is a through room, bathed in light via two windows and two new skylights. The master suite comprises a dressing room, a bathroom, with a toilet, and a bedroom.

The garage

This covered, lock-up garage is big enough (69 m²) to take at least four vehicles.

Our opinion

The interior of this house exudes good taste, without being classical, as well as peace and quiet, without being isolated or a long way from Paris. Soberness is an asset that guided the renovation works carried out on this former farm. Its current layout includes an extremely useful, self-contained area, composed of several rooms. The billiards’ room, steeped in light, would also appeal to an artist. The inside of this residence is but an invitation to seek refuge, whilst the parklands with their tall trees encourage strolling and daydreaming.
